Cincom SUPRA® DATA SHEET Cincom continues to enhance its SUPRA Server PDM for the Mainframe database management product to provide easier database administration, improved operational efficiencies and greater access flexibility. SUPRA® Server PDM for the Mainframe Effectively managing access to your data With SUPRA Server Physical Data Manager (PDM), you can: • easily access the server DBMS from multiple clients in the same machine or via TCP/IP from other client machines. • ensure high reliability and high performance for mission-critical applications running on your major environments. • reduce the overhead required to move data from DASD to memory to applications. • enable faster online processing with enhanced CICS performance. Additional PDM performance tools Performance enhancing tools are also available for PDM users. Included in these tools is the SUPRA Server PDM Windows Client designed to simplify Client/Server PC access to your PDM data. Also, included are the Windows Utilities, which consist of the LKxxEDIT Utility and a PDM database monitor. The LKxxEDIT Utility allows you to both display and update related dataset linkpath chains, in order to correct ICHN errors. The SUPRA PDM Monitor enables you to monitor your PDM database using a true windows-based, graphical interface. Release 2.7.00 offers major new features • Batch time cut in half • Faster online processing • Easier upgrades • Easier documentation access • And more ... Visit www.cincom.com for more information about these and other tools. S I M P L I F I C AT I O N T H R O U G H I N N O VAT I O N ® Release 2.7.00 features And more... • The CSTXOPRM macro has been changed as follows: Batch time cut in half – The IMMEDRS= parameter has been removed. The time it takes to complete batch processes has been significantly reduced. SUPRA’s Read-Ahead Buffering retrieves multiple records for each serial read operation from requesting STMT interfaces. The buffering facility is aimed at applications that read many records in a file before finding the record desired. It reduces the overhead required to move data from DASD to memory to applications. Internal performance testing shows buffering functions are completed in half the time that it takes without the feature in effect. – The MBLOC=, MBSIZE=, and INFOPRE= options have been added. Easier upgrades With the PDM Options Module, all the custom fixes ever entered for SUPRA PDM have been added to the source code. You simply select the options you want turned on and the optional processing is automatically enabled. Easy, fast and hassle free. Faster online processing SUPRA Server PDM Release 2.7.00 includes an updated and improved Transaction Server (CICS) interface for ESA. Easier documentation access All documentation is now available on CD-ROM. – The default for the parameter OCPTRTM= has been changed. • PDM information transactions have been added. • The CSTXGNIT sample program is included for security system time-out exits. • The automatic disconnect force= default has been changed from AUTO to SINF. Product overview Features of SUPRA Server PDM SUPRA Server PDM maintains data and coordinates database access, processes requests from tools and precompiled programs and provides backup and recovery tools. SUPRA Server PDM provides a great deal of control over data storage options and is designed for high-volume, online transaction processing. SUPRA Server with PDM support provides the following features: SUPRA Server PDM provides a variety of optional tools and functions that let you tailor SUPRA Server to your needs and environment. These tools and functions include the following: DBA utilities – Tools to organize and maintain data in an efficient, flexible manner. You execute most DBA utilities by coding Utility Command Language (UCL) program input. MANTIS® – Cincom’s completely interactive development system provides a rich set of tools for rapid application development, testing and implementation. AD/Advantage® – Automates development activities in each phase of the application life cycle to provide a true foundation for rapid application development. SUPRA Server RDM – Permits relational access to SUPRA data via a 4-verb vocabulary (Get, Insert, Update, Delete) and DBA-defined data views. Cincom’s RDML (relational data management language) is the tool used to access SUPRA data from user applications. Direct VSAM support – An application that allows SUPRA Server component access to VSAM KSDS/ESDS files through RDM. Pre-compilers – Allow you to embed RDML statements within application programs. SUPRA Server provides precompilers for COBOL and PL/I. Windows client support – Allows quick access to SUPRA PDM data for Windows applications, without heavy investments in training and new middleware. Using your PDML expertise and PC client support, your staff can create new applications and migrate them to the PC, as well as write graphical user interface tools and utilities for PCs. • Multiple file-type support. The PDM supports the following types of files: – Data files (primary and related, including Directory files) that contain user data and Directory information. – Index files that are optional and contain pointers to data file records and secondary key definitions. – System files that are optional and are for recording statistics, task level recovery, and system level recovery information. • Active schema (database) maintainability. You can perform maintenance on entities in an active schema, or database using Directory Maintenance and DBA utilities. • Storage optimization. The PDM uses experience tables, record blocking, and file buffering to manage and optimize storage space. • Recoverability. After a failure, you can use task level recovery and/or system level recovery to recover the database. The task log ensures that the PDM saves enough information for all tasks and transactions to perform task level recovery. The system log allows recovery if the task log file is unreadable or unusable, or if an updated data file is unreadable and must be reloaded. • Data accessibility. You can access files in four different ways: – Directly by primary key. – Directly or sequentially by secondary key. – Sequentially (forward or backward). – For read-only access to secondary key data. Business Intelligence for SUPRA Supported platforms for 2.7.00 Business Intelligence for SUPRA provides an integrated set of data access, ETL/data warehousing and multidimensional analytics packages that enable you to transform volumes of SUPRA PDM data into analytic information. Multi-dimensional analysis allows you to quickly reveal business performance and trends so you can make better business decisions, which ultimately results in better products, better service, and happier customers with increased sales and profits.
