Before Using the Built-in Modem
Before using the built-in modem, please make sure to set it up. The built-in modem
does not work properly if you do not make proper country/region settings for the
place you are dialing from. For more information about setting up the built-in modem,
please refer to “Configuring Your Modem” in “Customizing Your VAIO Computer” in
the supplied Hardware Guide.

Recovery Discs
There are no recovery discs provided with your computer. We strongly recommend
that you create the recovery discs as soon as your computer is ready for use. The
recovery discs are required to recover your computer system if you perform any of
the following:
• Installing or using the software which changes the partition sizes.
• Installing an operating system different from the preinstalled operating system on
your computer.
• Formatting the hard disk without using the “VAIO Recovery Utility” or
“VAIO Recovery Center” software*.

Recovery discs can also be purchased or you may like to contact your local
VAIO Helpdesk for recovery assistance at a fee.

Notes on the CD writing function
• Music CDs that you create conform to the regular music CD standards but require a
CD-R/CD-RW compatible device for playback. Some compatible devices, however,
may not be capable of playing back such music CDs and of displaying titles for
CDs that are compatible with the CD TEXT format.
• Some MP3-compatible CD players may have operational limitations on playing
back CD-ROMs containing MP3 files, called MP3 CDs, or may even fail to play
back such CD-ROMs.
• When creating an MP3 CD, do not create file structure of 8 or more levels. Your
device may fail to load files.
Notes on running the “System Restore” command, one of
the System Tools of Windows Vista™
• Use the backup tool of the “SonicStage CP” software to make backup copies of
music data before running the “System Restore” command in order to avoid loss of
important music data.
• If no backup copies are created, the management information in the music
database will become inconsistent, which may make all the music data you
recorded or imported earlier unavailable for playback.
• After having restored your system (through the “System Restore” command), please
use the backup tool of the “SonicStage CP” software to make the saved music data
available for playback.

Notes on using Sony external devices supplied with the
“OpenMG Jukebox” software
• The “SonicStage CP” software is compatible with external devices that are supplied
with the “OpenMG Jukebox” software but requires the latest plug-in and driver
software to be used with such devices. For more information, visit the Web site of
your device.
• Do not install “OpenMG Jukebox” software Version 2.1 or earlier into any computer
to overwrite the existing “SonicStage CP” software. Such installation will cause the
existing “SonicStage CP” software to fail.
