SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY Practical Application Topics (Mus 537-539) Determining Practical Application Projects The procedure for determination and completion of Practical Applications is as follows: 1. Your entrance exam will identify 7 to 15 areas of weakness. These are indicated on your Entrance Exam Report. 2. You are to choose three areas of weakness for the development of Practical Applications 1, 2, and 3. 3. Determine in which order you will do each selected area. (Summer 2005, Summer 2006, etc.); your choice. 4. Use the following form only for the purpose of formulating your ideas. Then submit the online form (http://bandworld.org and choose Practical Application Form under the ABC tab) DO NOT SUBMIT this form. It will not be accepted in lieu of the online submission. Note that all practical applications are intended as useful PROFESSIONAL MATERIALS which could be given to students and/or which might appear in our online publication, Bandworld Magazine. This means that careful thought must be given to explanations for both the student and (where appropriate) the conductor. Final copies of music must be of professional quality (done using a standard computer music notation program) and professionally bound. Explanatory types of projects must be typewritten (printed from computer files) using professional methods of presentation. Bibliography must reference the source of materials not specifically created by the candidate. (Retain computer files for possible revision and/or completion.) Always supply a hard copy of your final project and include ALL computer files on disc or CD-R in either Macintosh or PC format. 5. The ABC Graduate Faculty will give you written approval or suggestions about each of the three Practical Application areas on June 29. Any necessary revisionst must be resubmitted no later than July 1. A faculty response will occur by July 5. 6. Completed Practical Applications are due to ARRIVE in Ashland no later than August 10 of the summer chosen. (Mail to 407 Terrace, Ashland by Aug. 5 using a carrier which provides tracking. Waive required signature to avoid delays.) 7. Grades of Incomplete must be erased within the calendar year (by December 27 to avoid adding a year to the course of study) or a permanent "F" is given by SOU; re-enrollment as well as the payment for that course will have to be repeated.
