Bovis Lend Lease Middle East Regional Office Bovis Lend Lease Middle East Regional Office Abstract The Bovis Lend Lease business in the Middle East made a strategic decision to fit-out its new office space in Dubai in accordance with the USGBC LEED Commercial Interiors v2.0 rating system. Located on Sheikh Zayed Road, the new green office space is the main headquarters for its project and construction management operations in the UAE, Oman and Bahrain May 2010, Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Bovis Lend Lease announces that its corporate headquarters for its Middle East operations in Dubai has been officially LEED® Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). LEED is one of the world's iconic programs for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. “I am pleased that we have been able to demonstrate such a tangible outcome for the Middle East business to demonstrate our commitment towards being a sustainable organisation. We have substantial experience in designing and building projects that have achieved some of the best environmental benchmarks in the world and in having our own LEED certified office it clearly demonstrates that this commitment extends to the way we operate.” said Mark Fletcher, Bovis Lend Lease’s CEO of Continental Europe, Middle East & Africa and Latin America. LEED Certification of the Middle East Regional Head Office was attained based on a number of green design and construction features that positively impact the project itself and the broader community. These features include: Daylight and Views: All the workspaces has a direct line of sight through windows to access natural light and views, which is proven to increase staff morale and work performance. Low-Emitting Materials: The office furniture selected is made from sustainable materials such as strawboard and low volatile organic compounds (VOC) fabric to reduce harmful indoor air contaminants. This in conjunction with the recycled content, ergonomic chairs has provided our employers with a safe and comfortable working environment. Water Efficiency: The building uses 30% less water than a conventional building by employing water efficient fittings and fixtures including low-flow kitchen sinks, dual flush WCs, motion sensor taps and waterless urinals. Energy Efficiency: BLL achieved a lighting power reduction of 38.5% below the ASHRAE standard by installing an intelligent lighting control system. It automatically adjusts the amount of light emitted from the light fixtures to balance the amount of natural sunlight available in the office space, resulting in a more sustainable energy use. Furthermore, all equipment and appliances have been carefully selected to meet Energy Star rating. Recycling: Recycling is available in the new office, with designated areas assigned to receive waste generated at each workstation. Recycling of paper related products and plastics is collected on a weekly basis by Tadweer, a UAE waste management company. Sustainable Sites: The office is conveniently located in close proximity to public transportation, and is within a 5 minute walk to the Al Quoz Metro Station which became operational in May 2010.
