Paul Frankhuijzen 0031 (0)73-6214593 / 0031 06 81049643 [email protected] The Dutch composer Paul Frankhuijzen (b. 1956) has studied composition ad Tilburg Conservatory by Daan Manneke and Alexandru Hrisanide and Sonology ad The Institute for Sonology in Utrecht. He loves to be inspired by non-western music, such as Bake Society for Ethnomusicology, International Chime meeting. Paul is also inspired by early music, especially when vocal. However, the current composer generation, striving after a serene simplicity full of eloquence is also a huge source of inspiration for him. Yet he is not afraid to express himself in a lyrical way in his work as well. ‘A musician should also be able to sense his instrument fully, an interesting story is not enough’. as Paul often says. His work often has a poetic character. The chamber-opera Peripteron is a example. It is a confrontation with old mythical layers of emotional throughout the present. The Sumerian Hymn (800 v.c.) and the Homeric Hymns are important elements in this piece. Ad Johakyû, compose for Tomoko Mukaiyama (piano, voice) and Monica Germino (violin), he make use of old lyrics as philosophical elements from the Japanese NÔ theater. His oeuvre comprises over forty musical pieces, for solo instruments, chamber ensembles and orchestras. For more information see ad www.paulfrankhuijzen.com
