Faculty of Science & Engineering
The Faculty of Science and Engineering Science Prize is awarded
Science Prize
to students enrolling for the first time at the University of Waikato
in the first full-time year of a bachelors degree in the Faculty of
Science and Engineering who performed particularly well in the
STAR paper programme in the preceding year.
Earth and Ocean Sciences'
The Earth Sciences Excellence Award is conferred annually to
Excellence
students studying Earth Sciences at any level, who, in the year of
Award
the award, have shown outstanding ability in the subject.
Waikato Regional Council Prize in
The Waikato Regional Council Prize in Water Science is awarded
Water Science
annually to a student enrolled at the University who, in the year of
the award, has shown outstanding ability in Facultyof Science and
Engineering Level III courses dealing with water in the natural
environment.
H. S. Gibbs Prize in Earth Sciences
This H. S. Gibbs Prize in Earth Sciences is awarded annually to a
student studying first- or second-year Earth Sciences, who has (for
the year) submitted the best field report which demonstrates a
broad understanding of Earth Sciences.
Jeanette Gillespie
Memorial Prize in Earth Science
The Jeanette Gillespie Memorial Prize in Earth Science is awarded
annually to a student enrolled at the University who, in the year of
the award, has taken at least two Level I courses in Earth Sciences
for a first degree and who is academically the most meritorious
student in Level I Earth Sciences.
Jared Simpson Memorial Prize in
The Jared Simpson Memorial Prize in Biological and Earth
Biological and Earth Sciences
Sciences is awarded annually to a student enrolled at the
University who, in the year of the Award has taken Level II courses
in Biological Sciences and/or Earth Sciences for a first degree and
who has submitted practical work of a meritorious nature. The Prize
will be offered in alternate years in Biological Sciences (odd years)
and Earth Sciences (even years).
McCraw Prize in Communicating
The McCraw Prize in Communicating Earth Sciences Research is
Earth Sciences Research
awarded annually to a masters student enrolled at the University
who, in the year of the award, is undertaking Level V courses in
Earth Sciences, and who presents a conference paper at the
annual Earth Sciences Student Conference, (organised by the
Department), that is deemed to be outstanding in the presentation
of its findings and setting a context for the research it describes.
Shannon Young Award
The Shannon Young Award is made annually to a student or
students taking Level III Earth Sciences as a main subject for a first
degree at the University, who has/have shown outstanding ability
in Earth Sciences.
Waikato Geological and Lapidary
The Waikato Geological and Lapidary Society Prize in Earth
Club Prize in Earth Sciences
Sciences is awarded annually to an undergraduate student
studying Earth Sciences, who has submitted the best geological
field report for the year.
