Master’s Thesis Defense Friday, September 25, 2015 2:00 PM in Fitz Hall Room 580 GENERATION OF VERSATILE VORTEX LINEAR LIGHT BULLETS Xin Huang University of Dayton Abstract We demonstrate a versatile vortex linear light bullet as a three-dimensional vortex AiryBessel wave packet for the first time. It combines a temporal Airy pulse with a higher order vortex Bessel beam in spatial domain. Its non-varying feature in linear propagation is verified by 3D measurement. Advancing from earlier linear light bullets, this wave packet is not critically limited to specific linear materials. We believe that the versatile vortex linear light bullet can lead to many fascinating possibilities in various applications such as optical tweezing and material modification. Moreover, the controlled collisions between optical vortices in time domain are also studied.
