Christmas Show / Panto Commission – Beauty and the Beast
Notes of interest required
Castlegate Arts Ltd is looking to commission a creative team to deliver our Christmas Show in
2017.
About ACT Aberdeen
The venue has been run as an Arts Centre since 1963, and is primarily home to theatre, musical
theatre and dance performances by local community groups, and offers a range of classes and
workshops to support and develop local talent. The 350 seat auditorium is one of the few midscale venues in the North East of Scotland. In 2016, we hosted 175 performances across theatre,
music, dance, talks, musical theatre and numerous festivals.
ACT Aberdeen has produced a Christmas pantomime, written and performed by a local cast, for
several years. In 2016 the organisation changed its mode of delivery to offer the opportunity to
companies, artists and producers across Scotland and beyond to provide variety and added value
to the local cultural scene. We wish to continue this model for our 2017 pantomime.
Commission Details
Proposals are welcomed from individual artists, producers or companies. The production of
Beauty and the Beast can be a traditional pantomime, or an imaginative and entertaining
Christmas Show, and should be suitable for all ages. The show should be engaging, creative,
colourful and bring wonder and magic to our audiences.
Ideally, the successful artist or company will deliver a fully rehearsed and performance ready show
to be performed 40 times from Friday 1st - Sunday 31th December, including schools matinees
and at least one relaxed performance for ASN audiences. The venue will be available for
rehearsals and production time from Monday 13th November, by discussion.
The successful artist or company will be responsible for selecting and contracting cast and creative
team. ACT Aberdeen will work collaboratively with the successful company to supply technical and
marketing support. We will prioritise applications with local casting and opportunities for local
people to be involved in the production. The cast will also be expected to take part in promotional
opportunities such as Aberdeen’s Winter Parade and Christmas lights switch on.
Initial proposals should include:

Information about your idea and concept for the production

Details of the artists involved and the target audience age range.

Budget information up to a maximum of £60,000. Budgets should include all production
related costs, artists’ fees, set design, costumes, materials and delivery of 40 performances
as above.

A project timeline.

Information on your track record and reviews of previous work
Deadline for initial notes of interest: Monday 6th March.
If you have any queries or to submit your proposal, please contact Paula Gibson, Artistic Director,
