Personal Environments Product/Technical Bulletin Issue Date 669.0, 699.1 PE-DATA-IO 1297 Personal Environments Data Input/Output Cable The Personal Environments Data Input/Output Cable (PE-DATA-IO) (Figure 1) connects the Fan and Electronics Unit (FEU) to an external controller through individual monitor and control signals, which are available at the Data I/O socket on the FEU Connection Panel (Figure 2). The Data I/O Cable may be used with either the Supplied Air or Circulated Air Personal Environments systems, which do not have a Metasys network connection. The Data I/O socket is not available with Metasys networked Personal Environments systems. ! CAUTION: Connecting multiple Personal Environments points/objects on a single wire to a single external controller may result in ground loops and signal degradation, which could detrimentally affect the operation of the Personal Environments systems. The Data Input/Output Cable is an eight conductor cable. One end is terminated in an RJ 45 plug, which is connected to the Data I/O socket. The other end of the six foot cable is not terminated. The wires are connected to an external controller for monitoring and control. It is not necessary to use all monitor outputs or control inputs available. For those outputs or inputs used, it is necessary to connect each point/object and the common ground to a separate input or output on the external controller. © 1997 Johnson Controls, Inc. Part No. 24-8806-169 Code No. LIT-6991025 1 Installation To install the Data I/O Cable: 1. Remove the Data I/O Cable from the package and inspect for plug or cable damage. 2. Note that the wire color codes of the Data I/O Cable may vary; therefore, before connecting the cable, ensure that the proper signal to wire relationships are established. Figure 1: Data I/O Cable 2 Data Input/Output Cable Figure 2: Data I/O Socket in FEU Connection Panel 3 Connect the output or control input wires for the signals to be monitored or controlled to their associated external controller inputs/outputs (Table 1). Connections must be consistent with good wiring connection practice. 4 Unplug the Personal Environments system from the utility power outlet and connect the Data I/O Cable RJ 45 plug into the Data I/O socket in the FEU Connection Panel. Testing the Cable To test the Data I/O Cable: Table 1: Data Input/Output Socket Pin Functions (Connector Type: RJ 45; 8-conductor) 1. Plug the Personal Environments system into an appropriate utility power outlet. Pin Function 2. Establish communication between the external controller and the connected points. 1 (Left) Low Voltage Ground 2 Not Used 3 4 3. If temperature (Supplied Air system only), fan speed, or radiant heat are monitored, observe that the voltages change as indicated in Table 1. 4. If the Occupancy Sensor is monitored, observe that the occupancy contact closes when occupancy is sensed as indicated by the status light on the User Control Unit. 5. If Occupancy Override or Precondition control signals are connected, observe that the proper action takes place when 10 VDC are applied to these inputs. 5 Range Description Values Precondition Override Input Disabled Precondition 0 VDC 10 VDC Occupancy Status Output Unoccupied Open Dry Contact Occupied Closed Dry Contact 100 % Supplied Air 0 VDC Temperature Selection Output (Supplied Air System Only) Variable Level Mixed Ambient and Supplied Air 0 % Supplied Air* 10 VDC 6 Occupancy Override Input No Override Override 0 VDC 10 VDC 7 Fan Selection Output Fan Off (0 %) 0 VDC Variable Level 8 Radiant Heat Selection Output Fan Full On (100 %) 10 VDC Heat Off (0 %) 0 VDC Variable Level Heat Full On (100 %) ∗ Note: 10 VDC The Supplied Air Personal Environments system has a bypass of approximately 15 cfm of Supplied Air that is independent of the temperature selection. Data Input/Output Cable 3 O rder Instructions Products are available separately through Johnson Controls Customer Service Dept. for Authorized Building Control Specialists (ABCS) (1-800-ASK-JNSN, FAX: 1-800-356-1191) or the Branch order entry system (1-800-445-4757, FAX: 414-274-5797). See Table 2 for product code numbers. Note: The “B” appended to the Personal Environments product code means the product can be ordered in bulk quantities. The specific number of items is declared in the product code description. For example, “Bulk 25” means that when the product is ordered, exactly 25 items will be in the bulk package. The option was provided so that the job site trash would be minimized for new and retrofit projects.
