Water Plant Operator I JOB DESCRIPTION Full Time (40 hours/ week with occasional overtime) PAY RANGE: /hr. FLSA: NON-EXEMPT JOB SUMMARY: Assists in operation of water production plants to control flow and processing of water in accordance with State and EPA requirements. Including, but not limited to, assisting in the preparation of daily operational reports to meet regulatory requirements, collecting water samples, conducting laboratory tests, etc. SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS: None ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Regular and timely attendance at work. Assists in the preparation of daily operational reports to meet regulatory requirements. Assists in collection of water samples and conducts laboratory tests. Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow of water, and responds to water complaints. Flushing for water quality complaints, dead ends, locates, operates and records distribution valves. Checks water wells/pump stations. Locates, repairs, and maintains automatic flushers. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings and tests results to determine load requirements. Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw water. Maintains log of operations and records meter and gauge readings. Collects and enters data for water quality complaints, plant data, bacteria samples, chemical inventory and ordering; orders and maintains chemicals. Assists water/sewer maintenance and construction crews, develops SOP, and performs any necessary vehicle maintenance. Serves as "essential personnel" and remain available for immediate call-in due to any natural or man-made disaster, or any other event the Director of Public Works, Water Utilities Director, or the City Manager deem necessary. Contributes to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned. REQUIRED EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent is required. One (1) to two (2) years related experience required. Class āCā Ground Water State Certification or the ability to obtain a Class "C" State Certification in Ground Water, issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, to be renewed every 3 years, within 18 months of continued service. Failure to obtain certification in 18 months will result in possible termination. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KOWLEDGEAND SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Word or willing to learn. Ability to operate a vehicle for City business, 1-ton crane truck, back-hoe, fort lift, lawn mowers, weed eaters, hand tools, gas detector, self-contained breathing apparatus, dissolved oxygen meter, pH meter, voltage meter, megger, analogers, and various other tools and meters of the trade. Ability to assist in making adjustments to water well stations; CL2, pumps, motors, scales, polymer, pressure tanks and compressors. Ability to assist in collecting daily bacterial samples for the Lab, and complete daily logs. Ability to attend training classes to upgrade license and received mandatory classes as directed by the TCEQ. Must be able to work weekends and/or holidays.
