SUMMARY
The Lead Staff has the primary responsibility of maintaining a safe, supervised, and structured
living environment for our adolescent clients that is conducive to their well-being and promotes
improved social, emotional, developmental, educational and physical functioning. The Lead Staff
must be able to assess the group dynamics and client needs and then utilize that information
when carrying out the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.



















Be acquainted with and follow the policies and procedures of the group home and Positive
Alternatives.
Perform your duties in a consistent manner and within the program guidelines.
Be acquainted with the history and treatment objective of each client. Incorporate client
treatment objectives into the individual care of the residents.
Coordinate client home visits in accordance with their treatment objectives, phase, level,
and program guidelines.
Prepare the weekly menu and ensure needed menu items are purchased.
Prepare and post the recreation/activity calendar. Ensure staff has the needed materials
and instructions to carry out the activities. The overnight manager may play a role in this
task.
Facilitate shift transitions.
Conduct client intakes and discharges as needed. Ensure all paperwork is complete.
Schedule needed appointments for clients and coordinate transportation.
Monitor and distribute allowance and activity funds. Money must be requested from either
the Program Coordinator or Adolescent Care Manager.
Monitor and report client progress related to court ordered community service and
restitution obligations.
Ensure accurate documentation is completed for the shift.
Supervise youth and know their whereabouts at all times.
Provide transportation and escort youth to designated activities and appointments.
Coordinate the educational needs of the clients.
Coordinate and maintain a daily shift schedule/program for the youth.
Ensure youth receive their medication as prescribed and document.
Assist youth with daily living related tasks including meal preparation, chores, and
homework.
Provide an example of instructions to the youth regarding desirable health, personal and
social habits.

Recommend or initiates measures to control behavior and provide redirection and
disciplines to clients consistent with group home rules, regulations, and policies.
Facilitate crisis counseling, conflict resolution and problem solving with and for clients, as
needed.
Maintain living quarters and staff office in a clean, organized and presentable condition.
Serve as a program contact person for families, social workers, law enforcement and other
collateral contacts as needed.
Participate in client review meetings as requested.
Provide direction to staff in accordance with the rotating on-call procedures as scheduled.
Serve as liaison between Resident Counselors, other group home staff, the Program
Coordinator, and Adolescent Care Manager.
Work to create a supportive and team working environment.
Complete assigned tasks delegated by Program Coordinator and Adolescent Care Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
B.A. or B.S. degree in a Human Services related area. Experience with adolescents and/or in a
residential setting is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years’ related
experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to
write simple correspondence and document behaviors. Ability to effectively present information in
one-on-one and small group situations to clients, staff and collateral contacts.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where
only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written,
oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Employees must be 21 years of age or older. Possession of a valid driver’s license, reliable
transportation, auto insurance and a driving record free from major violations for the past five (5)
years is required. Employee must become and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The
employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to
participate in recreational activities that include sports and crafts. The employee must occasionally
lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision,
distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee
encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather
conditions. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, but can be loud at
times.
HOURS
40 hours a week. Hours are mainly daytime and early evening Monday-Friday and will typically be
between 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employees in this position are At-Will Employees. The Introductory Period is six (6) months.
Employees must give a 30-day written notice of termination in order to leave in “good standing.”
PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS
This employee will be evaluated upon completion of the six month Introductory Period and
annually thereafter by the Program Coordinator.
