Progress update
February 2016
Taskforce Project
Outline
In April 2015, the Acting
Director General of WA Health,
Prof Bryant Stokes,
established the WA Cancer
Taskforce chaired by Professor
Christobel Saunders to seek
clinician advice on current
issues facing the provision of
adult cancer services in
Western Australia.
Fourteen Taskforce
recommendations were
developed into a program plan
for action, commencing late
2015.
To deliver efficient and
affordable cancer services and
meet patient access to care
requirements, collaboration is
required across health sectors,
area health services, hospital
departments and specialties.
Coordinated, robust strategic
service development is
required to achieve further
system reform. The program
will be highly engaged with the
clinical and patient community.

Expert Advisory Cancer Group (EACG)
The EACG is a standing expert advisory group on cancer established by the Director General
of WA Health, Dr David Russel-Weisz, to monitor implementation of agreed initiatives and
address future challenges. Membership closely aligns with the WA Cancer & Palliative Care
Network and its tumour collaboratives and respective lead clinicians, and includes both
senior cancer clinicians and patient advocates. The EACG met 25 November 2015 and will
convene every two months for the duration of program delivery.
