classification of malocclusion Definition: Classification of Malocclusion is defined in the dental community by Angle’s Classifications. Angle’s Classification uses the relationship of the first molar teeth relative to the line of occlusion to determine the type of malocclusion. CLASS i Description Mesiobuccal cusp of maxillary first molar lies in buccal groove of mandibular first molar. Mesial slope of maxillary canine occludes with distal slope of mandibular canine. Treatment Mild crowding can often be corrected with tooth recontouring (stripping) and minor tooth movement. Moderate crowding is usually corrected by leveling and alignment of teeth using orthodontic brackets and wires. Severe crowding, impacted teeth, bimaxillary protrusion, and dental open bite may be corrected with extraction, expansion, and/or arch development.
