Directions: Choose items from the following menu to illustrate your understanding of
cells. You must choose at least one appetizer, one main dish, and one dessert.
APPETIZERS
News Report

scientific cell discovery (ex. Robert Hook’s work with cork cells, invention of first
microscope or electron microscope). Present this to the class (may be done live, as a
podcast, or as a video). Present the information as if the discovery were being reported
for the first time. Cite your sources.

the research and major contributions of the scientist. Discuss how this information has
changed our understanding of cells. Paper must cite a minimum of two sources and be at

Timeline

Create a timeline of the scientists and discoveries relating to cells. Include a minimum of
5 scientists. Explain how one discovery influenced the next. Cite at least three sources.
MAIN DISHES
Edible Cell

within the cell. Label the parts of the cell or make a key. Present your cell to the class,
being sure to describe the function of each structure.
Cell Interview

Write a script of an interview with a cell. The interview should deal with the structure
and function of the cell and must include at least 11 cell structures. Interview may be
performed in front of the class, or recorded as a podcast.
Crossword

Create a crossword puzzle of cell parts and functions. Use a minimum of 15 terms. Must
have clues for each word and include an answer key. This may be done using an
electronic source such as www.puzzlemaker.com or by hand.
Cell Song

Create or modify a song, rap, poem, or cheer related to cell structure and function.
Include a minimum of 11 structures. Share this with the class, or save this as a podcast.
Analogy

Form an analogy comparing a cell to a factory, school, town, etc. In a well written paper,
explain the relationship between at least 8 organelles and the corresponding parts of the
factory, school, town, etc.
Game

Design a game that teaches or reviews the parts of the cell. Write a clear set of directions
outlining the rules. Compile any necessary pieces, boards, or other items. Present and
teach the game to the class.
DESSERT
Venn Diagram

Create two Venn diagrams. One should be plant vs. animal cells. The other should
compare and contrast two different cell types. Each diagram must include a minimum of
12 items, with a minimum of three in each part of the diagram.
Model

Create a model of a typical plant cell and one of a typical animal cell. Label organelles in
each. Write a paragraph or two about the differences between plant and animal cells.
The write ups will be displayed with your model.
Poster

Draw or paint a poster showing at least three different cell types. Discuss how each is

Scrapbook
