G & T - January 2016 Kindergarten: Math Chapter 8: Numbers to 100 8.1 – counting by 2s – Students draw a given number of objects. Circle groups of 2 and write the counting sequence. 8.2 – counting by 5s – Students draw a given number of objects. Circle groups of 5 and write the counting sequence. 8.3 – Counting 10s to 100 – Students use connecting cubes to create groups of 10. Count and write the counting sequence. 8.4 – Numbers 20 to 49 - Students create groups of connecting cubes to show a number between 20 and 49. (i.e. five groups of 5 to show 25) 8.5 – Numbers 50 to 79 – Students create groups of connecting cubes to show a given number between 50 and 79. (i.e. six groups of 10 and one group of 2 to show 62) 8.6 – Numbers 80 to 100 - Students complete ten frames to show a given number. (i.e. 8 complete ten frames and one frame with 3 dots to show 83) 8.7 – Numbers 1 to 100 – Students draw and write different ways to count to 100 (ie. By 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s) ELA - Unit 3 – Skill: Compare and contrast – Write and illustrate activities you do in the winter months compared to what you do in the summer months. ******************************************************* 1st Grade: Math Chapter 8: Addition and Subtraction Facts to 20 8.1 – Ways to Add – Draw and write an addition story. 8.2 – Ways to Subtract – Draw and write a subtraction story. 8.3 – Real-World Problems: Addition and Subtraction Facts – Write and illustrate an addition story using doubles. ELA Unit 3 - Lesson 14 – Illustrate and write a story describing a rule (either at home or at school) you wish didn’t exist. Include the effects of not having to follow this rule. ******************************************************* 2nd Grade: Math – Chapter 10: Mental Math and Estimation 10.1 - Meaning of Sum 10.2 - Mental Addition - Students write an addition story where mental math is used to add the tens strategy. 10.3 - Meaning of Difference 10.4 - Mental Subtraction - Students explore and write the different ways they subtract two numbers. (i.e. regrouping, subtract 10 then add the extra ones, subtract the tens…) 10.5 - Rounding Numbers to Estimate – Students explore how to use rounding to estimate sums or differences and check that their answers are reasonable. Students write an addition or subtraction story of a real world problem using estimation to check that their answer is reasonable. ELA Unit 3 - Lesson 13 – Write a story depicting what a school will be like in ten years. Include details about how children will be taught and what they will learn.
