Organizing II International Festival of Youth Social
Theatres
“Energy of Theatre”

1. GENERAL CONDITIONS
1.1. The second international festival of youth social theatres "Energy of
Theatre" (further - the Festival) is held for:
• Development of social theatres and theatrical teams focusing on raising
awareness of the urgent social phenomena among the youth;
• Development of capacity and potential of various youth communities.
1.2. The festival is held annually within implementation of the art and social
project "Energy of Theatre".
1.4. The festival provides educational, competitive, out-of-competition and
entertaining programs. It also carries out seminars, round tables, workshops,
conferences and other creative forms of interaction.
1.4 .Dates: November 11-15, 2013.
1.5 . Venue – Russia, Samara:
• (plan 2013) Chamber Scene drama theater;
• (plan 2013) educational institutions of Samara.
1.6. Working languages of the Festival – Russian, English.
ORGANIZERS OF THE FESTIVAL
2.1. NGO "Youth theatre "Light".
2.2. Co-organizers:
• Department of culture, sports, tourism and youth policy of Samara;
• (plan) Ministry of Culture of Samara region;
• (plan) Department for youth of Samara region;
With support of the Samara office of the Theatrical Union of figures of the
Russian Federation and KLROO "Alliance Fransez Samara".
2.3. The festival is held with the financial support of MTV Staying Alive
Foundation and JSC Samara Network Company. Continuous involvement of
partners is conducted.
3. GOALS OF THE FESTIVAL
3.1. Exchange of experiences between creative and initiative youth groups and
theatrical groups working in the area stated above.
3.2. Improving art skills and talents of the cast of youth theatres and
professional skills of directors and heads of youth theaters.
3.3. Expansion ofaccess of youth, youth communities and organizationsto upto-date information, knowledge and examples of the best practices in the area
of protection of reproductive health and realization of the reproductive rights.
4. PARTICIPANTS OF THE FESTIVAL, ORDER OF APPLICATION SUBMISSIONS,
PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS
4.1. Participants of the Festival can be:
• Amateur theatrical groups, theatre-studios;
• Youth professional theatres;
• Educational theatres, youth creative groups and theatrical teams;
• Individual performers;
Focusing on the following urgent social issues: discrimination, racism, drug
addiction, ecology, tolerance, HIV, abortions, mental disorders and other
important issues in your country/ city/community.
4.2. Age restrictions of performers – from 16 to 35 years. However, 10% of
the members of theatrical group can be younger or older than this age
category. The number of people in the group should NOT exceed 10 people.
4.3. Besides theatrical groups, any person whocorresponds to selection
criteria and has submitted an application in due time in the established form
and has paid the overall cost of accommodation and food at the Festival can
participate in the Festival.
4.4. Applications are open till October 15, 2013.
4.4.1. Applications from theatrical groups are to be filled out according to an
enclosed form (Appendix 1). Each participant of theatrical team without
exception fills out an individual part (Appendix No. 2). The application has to
be accompanied by videoof the performance and all the necessary information
on production of the performance such as posters, applets, summaries,
reviews, photos and video records. Organizers reserve the right to use
information production of participants of the Festival for publication in mass
media in connection with the Festival.
4.4.2. Applications from individual participants are to be filled out according
to an enclosed form (Appendix No. 2). If the organization sends an individual
performer to the Festival, he/shehas to fillout the General part (Appendix No.
1).
4.5. Not only will there be competitive performances, but also performances
and shows out of the competition will be organized. To participate in the outof-competition program, the interested theatrical groups need to send the
appropriate application form on an equal basis with other participants (No.
No. 1, 2 Appendix). Out-of-competition performances have to answer the main
ideas of social theatre, and also have to promote the solution of the issues
formulated in Item 3 of the Conditions document.
The programof the Festival also carries out master classes and practical
seminars on subjects, directly and indirectly connected with social theatre.
For carrying out a master class (a seminar, workshop, conference, a round
table) it is necessary to submit an application till November 1, 2012, the
form in the Appendix No. 3.
4.6. Applications are accepted by e-mail at [email protected] (with the
copy at [email protected]). A friendly suggestion an
application form from theatrical team (including the general part + individual
applications from each participant) should be sentin ONE attachment.
The applications submitted after proposed deadline will be considered by the
Festival committee on a separate basis.
4.7. Materials of applications aren't reviewed and don't return to applicants.
Decisions on the chosen applications are not commented.
4.8. The following expenses of the participants are covered by the Organizers
of the Festival Committee:
• Accommodation in hotel "Azimuth" during the time of the Festival;
• (breakfast and dinner);
• Educational and entertainment program during the Festival program;
• Providing a platform for performance and necessary service of production
part according to the technical requirements specified in the application from;
• In special cases - a transfer in Samara.
4.9. Participants independently pay the following expenses:
-A round-trip to the venue of the Festival;
-Participation fee at a rate of 3000 (three thousand) rubles from one
participant (one person) from theatrical groups and performers;
-Participation fee at a rate of 6000 (six thousand) rubles for participants of the
Festival who don't take part in competitive and out-of-competition programs.
4.10. The participation fee is accepted by a way of transfer to personal
account of Autonomous Non-Commercial Organization Youth Theatre Light.
4.11. All participants of the Festival who have submitted applications in due
time, with observance of all requirements are invited by the Organizing
Committee for participation in the Festival and will be informed by email/
calls till October 15, 2013.
CONDITIONS OF CARRYING OUT FESTIVAL.
5.1. The festival is held within 5 days and includes competitive, out-ofcompetition, educational and entertaining programs.
5.2. Each organization, creative group or the theatrical team participating in
the Festival, is provided with the curator (from among organizers of the
Festival) who is responsible for communication with Organizing committee
and theatrical team and resolves all current and administrative issues.
5.3. The competitive program provides daily display of theatrical
performances by participants of the Festival. The sequence of displays is
defined by lot way. For an assessment of displays the Organizing committee
creates special independent jury (the Section "Festival Jury").
5.4. The theatrical performances allowed to the competitive program, have to
answer the following conditions:
- Theatrical performance should focus on raising awareness of urgent social
issues among the youth;
-The purpose of a theatrical performance is finding solution to socially
significant problems of the youth;
-Age of the participants involved in a theatrical performance –should be from
16 to 35 years;
-The main target audience of a theatrical performance is young people aged
from 14 till 35 years;
-The theatrical performance has to be in Russian or English languages;
-The theatrical performance can be done in any genre with use of various
technical and theatrical forms within the concept of the social theater;
-Duration of interactive performance –has to be no more than 60 minutes;
duration of drama performance – no more than 90 min.
5.5. Necessary details will be suggested by Organizing committee till October
15, 2013 by sending a technical rider to organizers.
5.6. The educational program will be offered for all participants of the Festival
by experts in the sphere of theater, art, prevention of the negative social
phenomena among youth. The educational program of the Festival is realized
by means of carrying out master classes, seminars, trainings and so forth.
Programs are formed by the Organizing committee taking into account the
wishes and suggestions of the participants. The workshops and trainings of
participants declared in appropriate section of the demand (Appendix 1, 2, 3)
will be also included in an educational program.
Experts and professionals, wishing to take part in leading master classes,
workshops or trainings and seminars as a part of an educational program of
the Festival have to submit an application (Appendix 3) where the subject, the
program and details of carrying out declared training action is in detail
described.
The scope of training actions has to answer the purpose and the goals of the
Festival formulated in P 1, 3. Pay attention that work of leading educational
workshops and trainings is voluntary andisn't paid.
5.7. The out-of-competition program will be shown along with competitive
performances.
5.7. Entertainment program includes a variety of activities which will be
approved by Organizing Committee 10 days prior to the Festival, taking into
account wishes and suggestions of participants.
5.8. All teams – participants of the Festival are obliged to perform twice
during the Festival.
5.9. Participants of the Festival can participate in all events of the Festival
declared in the individual program of each team which is developed by the
head of team and Organizing committee.
6 .FESTIVAL JURY.
6.1. For the purpose of definition of winners of the Festival on the main and
incentive nominations the independent Jury is formed.
6.2. The structure of Jury includes professionals oftheatre and art, experts into
the fields of education, health care, representatives of the youth organizations.
6.3. Main nominations of the Festival:
-the best performance;
-the best work of the director;
-the best female part;
-the best male part;
6.4 . Incentive nominations of the Festival:
-the best scenography;
-the best choreographic decision;
-the best second part;
-prize of spectator sympathies.
6.5 . Main criteria of an assessment of theatrical performances:
-relevance of the subject of the performance to its target group;
-compliance of the message of a theatrical performance to its plot and action
of actors on a scene;
-availability of the message of the declared target audience and compliance to
the principles of the effective information message (problem updating, the
problem characteristic, a proposed solution);
-performance scenography;
-director's approach to the solution of organizing performance;
-actor's worktaking into account "peer-to-peer" approach;
6.6. The jury has the right:
-not to give an award on any nomination;
-to redistribute awards;
-to define the new nominations which haven't been provided by the present
Terms of Conditions;
- to define special prizes and awards in coordination with Organizing
committee.
6.6.1. The statements declared to participation out of the competition, will be
estimated by jury in a separate order with award of the special nominations
and memorable prizes.
6.7. Decisions of Jury are made by ballot and made out by the protocol signed
by all judges. Decisions of Jury are final and aren't subject to revision.
6.8. The organization and conducting meetings of Jury are carried out by the
Chairman elected by the decision of judges by open voting. The chairman has
an additional vote at disputable vote.
6.9. Development of Conditions of work of Jury and technical ensuring its
work are carried out by Festival Organizing committee.
6.10. Spectator vote will organize, carries out and records Festival Organizing
committee according to separate Regulations.
6.11. Decisions of Jury and results of spectators vote appear at the Festival
Closing ceremony with delivery of memorable signs, prizes and gifts.
7. FESTIVAL ORGANIZING COMMITTEE.
7.1. The organizing committee will organize preparation and carrying out the
Festival, form the Festival program, and make the selection of the participants
of the Festival.
7.2. The Organizing committeeincludes:
- The chairman/director of the Festival – Ushakov Mikhail, the director of the
art and social project "Energy of Theatre" in Russia;
- The deputies chairman – Kuznetsov Igor, are art the head of Autonomous
Non-Commercial Organization Youth Theatre Light;
- The work coordinator with partners of the Festival – Mikhail Tumasov;
- The coordinator of the Festival – Mordvinova Ekaterina.
7.3. In case of need the structure of Organizing committee can be expanded.
