Lesson 4, Your Ascendant Sign Birthstones
Modern astrology, and ancient astrology
for that matter, attaches a great deal of
significance to the “Ascendant.” You
may rightfully ask “what is that?” Among
other things, that is a fair question.
The ascendant is the zodiac sign that
was ascending (rising above the horizon)
when you were born.
Now consider that the earth rotates
completely in roughly 24 hours. Also
consider that there are 12 zodiac signs.
This means that as the earth rotates,
each sign rises through the eastern horizon about every 2 hours. The Ascendant (or rising
sign) is often considered
the mask one wears when
meeting others. Perhaps it
is most aptly thought of as
the automatic responses
to one's environment. The
Ascendant shows our
natural defenses and how
we cope with day-to-day
issues. The energies of
the sign and condition of
the Ascendant are most
overt and obvious to
others. The Ascendant shows an individual's first, natural reaction to new
people and situations.
What is important here is to understand that while we might see ourselves
as a Virgo, or a Gemini (which might be true or not) others see us initially
as the sign of our ascendant. It is how we cope and how we interact with
others.
Gaining the view of ourselves as others see us is important to our success
in all the elements of our lives. Potential friends, lovers, employers, and
just the policeman that stops us are interacting with a “you” with which you
may be unfamiliar
The stone or crystal associated with the Ascendant sign of your birth may
well be the truest birthstone for many of us.
