Early detection is key in successful treatment of all cancer types. The following is
information regarding screenings that help detect the most common types of cancer.
Breast Cancer
A yearly mammogram is strongly recommended for women over 40 to screen for breast
cancer.

Cervical Cancer
A Pap Smear is the test used to detect cervical cancer in women. Pap smears are
recommended for all sexually active women. Depending on the results of the test, your
physician may recommend that you continue to get a Pap every year, every other year,
or some people may be able to wait up to 3 years between exams.

Colon Cancer
A colonoscopy is used to check for colon (also called colorectal) cancer. Colonoscopies
are recommended for all adults over 50, and some adults before 50 based on family

Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is a cancer that occurs in the tissues of the prostate gland, and usually
occurs in older men. The PSA and DRE are common tests for prostate cancer and can
be recommended by your physician for both routine and diagnostic screenings. More
