Patricians (members of the landholding upper class) ruled. Plebeians (common farmers, merchants, and artisans) could rule. Plebeians demanded laws be written=first written code of law. God gave each being dignity that can never be taken away. Duty to live a moral life, follow law and help others. God gave people moral freedom to choose between right and wrong.
