Beginning
• Abraham or Abram is considered the founder of Judaism because
according to the Bible, God chose Abraham to be “the father of many
nations”
• The actual time of the creation of Judaism is unknown but is estimated to
be founded over 3500 years ago.
• Judaism was formed in Canaan, modern day Israel and Palestine. Canaan
was between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean.

Old

After sacrifices are made you are
“clean”. When you sin again you are

• Consists of rules applying to marriage,
what you do when you wake up in the
morning, what you can and cannot eat,
etc.
Important Terms
• Hebrew- the oldest name used for the language and people involved with
Judaism.
• Torah- this is the law, also known as the Five Books of Moses.
• Israel- where Judaism was formed and is the country occupied by the Israelites.
• Sheol- the world of the dead.
• Mikva- a body of natural water used for ritual cleansing.

• Baptism- Christian initiatory ritual.
• Penance- Christian sacrament in which the Christian confesses his sins for
absolution.
• Grace- refers to the free gift of God’s salvation through Jesus Christ.
• God- Is the one who is Christians believe is the one who created everything.
• Roman Catholic Church- a church that was founded by Jesus Christ and follows
his true teachings.
• Byzantine- was a Christian State that was founded on the authority of the
church.
• Mormon- a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and they
follow the Mormon faith.
