1 2 a. List the plants from smallest to largest: Mercury, Mars, Venus, Earth, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter b. Distance from the sun – Closet to Furthest Away Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune c. Gravity -‐ Lowest to Highest Moon, Mars, Venus, Earth, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter The Planets that are known as gas giants are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. 3. Name three spacecrafts and one planet visited by each: -‐ Voyager 1 – Jupiter and Saturn -‐ Voyager 2 – Uranus and Neptune -‐ Apollo 11 – The moon 4. a) Name the body in the solar system that lost its status as a planet in 2006 Pluto b) Pluto is now regarded as a dwarf planet because it has the same characteristics of a plant, that is having enough gravitational pull to keeps its self roughly spherical. The difference is that the gravitational pull that Pluto has is insufficient to clear any debris in its path whereas normal planets are able to clear their path. c) Name two other dwarf planets Ceres – Asteroid Eris – Asteroid 5. Terrestrial planets are planets that are made predominately out of rock and for this reason are called ‘Earth-‐like’ planets. The 4 terrestrial planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) are the 4 inner planets or the 4 that are closet to the son. 6. There is less information on the outer planets compared to the inner planets for several reasons. Firstly, the inner planets can be seen through a telescope making viewing the planet so much easier to study. Secondly, Earth is closer to the inner planets (being one itself), therefore travelling to these planets are easier than that of the outer planets. Finally, the outer planets are made out of gas making it extremely hard to have drones send information back to the space stations on Earth. 7. Identify the following planets by unscrambling their names a. PETENUN – Neptune b. SUNEV – Venus c. ARMS – Mars d. RATUNS – Saturn e. ITUPREJ – Jupiter f. SUNRAU – Uranus g. TEHAR – Earth h. RECYRUM – Mercury 8. a. Planets that can be called Ancient Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn b. Planets that can be called Modern Uranus and Neptune 9. Which planet is… a. Hottest Venus (460ºC) b. Coldest Neptune and Uranus (220ºC) c. Has a giant raging hurricane Jupiter
