*Percent- a fraction in which the denominator is 100. Percent is another name for hundredths. The
percent symbol “%” means “out of 100.”
*Converting a decimal to a percent:
Example ( I Do)
0.05 When converting a decimal to a percent you must move the decimal point TWO places to the
right and then add the “%” sign to the end of the number. So, when the decimal number 0.05 is
converted to a percent it becomes 5%
Second example ( I Do)
0.54 becomes 54%

*Converting a percent to a fraction:
Steps:
1. Drop the % sign
2. Put the number over 100
3. Simplify the fraction, if needed
Example (I do)

*Converting a fraction to a percent:
There are 2 methods…
Method #1
1. Divide the numerator of the fraction by the denominator. Decimal point and zeros need to be added.
Use 3 places.
2. Move your new decimal 2 places to the right.
3. Add a percent sign.
Method #2
1. Check denominator to see if you can multiply it by a number to get 100.
2. Multiply numerator and denominator by that number.
3. When fraction has a denominator = to 100 drop the 100.
4. Add percent sign.
Example (I Do)

*Comparing decimals, percent and fractions to each other.
Step 1: When comparing a decimal to a percent OR fraction you must first convert to a similarity…
Example (I Do)
48% _______ 0.52
I am choosing to convert 0.52 to a percent. After I move the decimal place to the right two places I
have 52 and then I add the “%” sign. Now I have 52%.
So, 48% is less than 52%
Answer

*Steps in Ordering Numbers
Step 1: Convert all numbers to ONE form. Similar to comparing but you have more numbers.
Step 2: Determine if these numbers should be ordered Greatest to Least or Least to Greatest.
