TRANSITIONS® SIGNATURE™ VII LENSES PERFORMANCE:
Q: What is Transitions Signature VII and how is it different/better?
A: Transitions Signature VII is the latest and most balanced photochromic lens from Transitions Optical.
Our newest lenses are more responsive in more situations, more reactive to direct and indirect
sunlight and become even darker on hot days.
Q: How are Transitions Signature VII lenses different to Transitions® XTRActive® lenses?
A: Both are clear lens replacements. Transitions Signature VII lenses are our most balanced everyday
lenses, having a high degree of indoor clarity and an improved level of outdoor darkness and
responsiveness in hotter temperatures. It is available in a broad range of lens designs and materials
in grey and brown.
Transitions XTRActive lenses are our darkest everyday lenses outdoors. They have a slight residual
tint indoors, and activate moderately behind a car windscreen. They are available in grey.
Q: Why should I recommend Transitions Signature VII lenses over previous generations of
Transitions lenses?
A: Wearer tests revealed a 2:1 preference for Transitions Signature VII over Transitions® VI.
The performance benefits that resulted in this level of preference are:
• Darker outdoors - in any temperature.
• Darker outdoors - in hot temperatures.
• Faster fade back speed - on average 20% faster.
Q: What’s new and different about the darkness of Transitions Signature VII lenses?
A: Compared to Transitions VI lenses, Transitions Signature VII lenses are darker in average and
hot temperatures.
When measured in 200 different real-life situations, over 1000 times:
• T
ransitions Signature VII brown lenses were shown to be on average 21% darker than
Transitions VI brown.
• Transitions Signature VII grey lenses were shown to be on average 15% darker than
Transitions VI grey.
As a result, Transitions Signature VII lenses will provide even more visual comfort, glare reduction
and enhanced contrast.
Q: What’s new and different about the fade back speed of Transitions Signature VII lenses?
A: When averaged across tests, Transitions Signature VII lenses start darker yet fade back 20% faster
than Transitions VI lenses, achieving clear in similar time.
Q: Why should I recommend Transitions Signature VII lenses to my patients who wear regular clear lenses?
A: Wearer tests revealed 82% preferred Transitions Signature VII lenses to their current clear lenses.
New Transitions Signature VII lenses provide a superior way to see the world. Indoors, they perform
as everyday clear lenses. Outdoors, they provide even more benefits, continuously filtering light,
reducing glare and eye fatigue, and block 100% UV rays.
Q: Are Transitions® Signature™ VII lenses clear indoors?
A: Yes. When combined with an anti-reflective (AR) coating, Transitions Signature VII brown has a
transmission of 95% and Transitions Signature VII grey has a transmission of 94%.
Q: How do Transitions Signature VII lenses perform in hot and cold temperatures (extreme
temperatures)?
A: Transitions Signature VII are more reactive to indirect sunlight. They better capture reflected
sunlight, and become even darker on hot days, when compared to Transitions VI lenses.
The superior performance is thanks to Chromea7™ technology.
Q: Should I recommend Transitions Signature VII lenses to parents for their children?
A: Absolutely and without hesitation. Transitions Signature VII lenses give children versatility, increased
visual comfort and block 100% of UV rays. It is extremely critical for children’s eyes to be protected
from UV rays because they typically spend three times more time outdoors than adults. To complicate
matters, children’s eyes are not fully developed until they are older, so their crystalline lens is more
translucent, leaving their eyes particularly vulnerable to UV. That’s a good reason to offer lenses
such as Transitions Signature VII to parents. Transitions lenses are available in impact-resistant
materials – Polycarbonate and Trivex™ – making them an excellent choice for children.
Q: What is Chromea7 technology?
Chromea7 technology is a breakthrough exclusive 8-dye molecular formulation which keeps more
molecules activated to absorb more light – allowing for a better, responsive lens in real-life situations.
Q: What is the life expectancy of Transitions Signature VII lenses?
A: The performance life of Transitions Signature VII lenses will generally last the lifetime of the prescription.
While it is normal for there to be a small loss of photochromic performance over time, with normal
usage, chances are you will sell the patient a new pair long before their Transitions Signature VII lenses
have any perceptible change in performance.
SPECIAL SITUATIONS:
Q: Do Transitions Signature VII lenses perform behind the windscreen of a car?
A: No. Photochromic lenses are activated by UV rays. Most vehicle windscreens block UV rays to protect
the interior of the car and, as a result, protect the passengers from the majority of UV exposure.
ADDED BENEFITS:
Q: Are Transitions Signature VII lenses compatible with premium anti-reflective coatings?
A: Absolutely. Transitions Signature VII lenses are compatible with all premium AR coatings and
hardcoats. In fact, Transitions Signature VII lenses are even clearer than regular clear lenses when a
premium AR coating is applied.
Q: Can Transitions Signature VII lenses be tinted?
A: Yes, but we do not recommend it as tinting will compromise the clarity of Transitions Signature VII
lenses, which are as clear as regular clear lenses indoors and at night.
Q: Are Transitions Signature VII lenses limited to any particular eyeglass frames?
A: Absolutely not. That’s one of the benefits of Transitions lenses – they are available for virtually any
frame suitable for prescription lenses. And because Transitions Signature VII lenses automatically
function as both clear and outdoor tinted lenses, they are fashionable and stylish and enhance the
look of any frame.
Q: In what colours are Transitions Signature VII lenses offered?
A: Transitions Signature VII lenses are available in attractive grey or brown tints.
WHO SHOULD WEAR TRANSITIONS SIGNATURE VII LENSES?
Q: Who are Transitions Signature VII lenses best suited to?
A: Transitions Signature VII lenses are recommended for anyone who could benefit from seeing better
today and preserving the health and well being of their eyes for the future – and that is virtually
everyone. Transitions lenses are the ideal choice for every one of your patients who currently wears
regular clear eyeglass lenses because they automatically enhance visual comfort, visual quality and

For patients who want the benefits of an adaptive lens and want their lens to go moderately dark
behind a car windscreen, we recommend Transitions® XTRActive® lenses or Transitions® Drivewear®
adaptive polarised sun lenses.
Q: Are Transitions Signature VII lenses suitable for night driving?
A: Transitions Signature VII lenses are suitable for any activity that would normally require clear lenses,
which includes driving at night. As with clear lenses, adding an AR coating to Transitions lenses may
make driving at night even more comfortable for your patients, as they reduce distracting glare and
are even clearer than regular clear lenses. Transitions Signature VII lenses are suitable for night
driving and meet ISO 14889 standard for use at night.
Q: Are Transitions Signature VII lenses recommended for protective sports eyewear?
A: First and foremost, for any contact sport activity it is essential that proper, protective eyewear is
selected to reduce the risk of eye injury – especially for children, who are most prone to injury during
sports activities. Recommending special sports frames with shock and impact-resistant material, such
as Polycarbonate or Trivex, to your active patients should be a top priority. Adding the benefits of
Transitions Signature VII lenses is a great bonus since they adjust to changing light and block 100% of
UV rays, providing visual comfort during outdoor activities held at various times of the day. Transitions
lenses in impact-resistant materials make an excellent choice for parents on the sidelines as well.

Q: Are Transitions Signature VII lenses covered by Transitions Optical Love Them or Exchange Them
guarantee?
A: Yes, Transitions Signature VII lenses will be covered by our Love Them or Exchange Them guarantee,
promoted on our Certificate of Authenticity. If wearers are not happy with their new lenses they can
return them to your practice within 30 days of collection and replace them for a clear pair of lenses.
The replacement lenses will be through the same Lens Supplier, in the same prescription, design, index,
coatings and frame as the original pair. There will be no refund to the consumer for any price difference.
Q: Can Transitions Signature VII lenses help my business grow?
A: Absolutely. In addition to providing the ideal choice for your patients‘ primary pair of lenses, fitting

Q: Should I recommend Transitions® Signature™ VII lenses as a sunglass replacement? What about
second pair sales?
A: Even though they get sun lens-dark outside, Transitions lenses are not intended to replace sunglasses.
Transitions lenses are intended to replace regular clear lenses for your patients’ primary pair of lenses.
Sunglasses, especially polarised lenses, are specialty eyewear for specific, sustained outdoor use and
blinding glare situations. Transitions everyday lenses, as a first pair, in combination with polarised
adaptive sunglasses as a second pair, make an excellent two pair selection for your patients. Most of
your patients should be open to that recommendation. In fact, research indicates that wearers of
Transitions lenses are more likely than clear lens wearers to own sunglasses as their second pair.
TRANSITIONS SIGNATURE VII LENSES AND HEALTHY SIGHT:
Q: To what degree do Transitions Signature VII lenses provide UV protection?
A: Like all Transitions lenses, Transitions Signature VII lenses block 100% of UV rays. Transitions lenses
meet internationally recognised standards for UV blockage as stated in ANSI Z80.3, ISO 8980-3,
EN 1836 and AS/NZS 1067.
Q: Can Transitions Signature VII lenses provide visual comfort?
A: Yes. Constant variations in light intensity throughout the day can leave eyes feeling tired and
stressed. Transitions Signature VII lenses reduce discomforting and disabling glare, thereby reducing
squinting, eye strain and eye fatigue for wearers. When fitted with Transitions Signature VII lenses,
your patients’ eyes will automatically feel more comfortable all day long.
Q: Can Transitions Signature VII lenses improve contrast sensitivity?
A: Yes. Transitions Signature VII lenses reduce glare, thereby enhancing contrast sensitivity and
reducing eye fatigue and eye strain.
Q: How do Transitions Signature VII lenses reduce glare?
A: Transitions Signature VII lenses automatically adjust to changing light outdoors and become dark
in bright outdoor light, providing comparable glare protection to non-polarised sun lenses. Unlike
regular sun lenses, the performance of Transitions lenses is dynamic, providing just the right amount
of tint outdoors. As light conditions change, the level of tint and glare reduction changes as needed.
As a result, visual quality and visual comfort are enhanced.
Transitions Optical recognises there are 4 types of glare.
Glare can be described as “extreme brightness” from the presence of excessive visible light. Glare can
be distracting and even dangerous and can occur day or night in a number of ways. There are four
types of glare that can affect one’s ability to see clearly. They are:
• D
istracting glare, where light reflects from the eyeglass lens surface or from within the lens,
causing distraction, eye fatigue and squinting. Reduce distracting glare with Transitions everyday
adaptive lenses with AR coating.
• D
iscomforting glare, where light reaches an intensity level at which the eye is unable to adapt
naturally, resulting in true eye discomfort and reduced ability to see clearly. Reduce discomforting
glare with Transitions everyday adaptive lenses.
• D
isabling glare, where light intensity becomes extreme. The eye’s ability to adapt is exceeded; the
ability to discern detail is significantly compromised. Eye discomfort becomes significant, and
vision can be impaired. Reduce disabling glare with Transitions everyday adaptive lenses or
Transitions adaptive sunglasses.
• Blinding glare, the most extreme form of glare, is when bright light reflects off of smooth, shiny
surfaces, like water, sand or snow, acting like a mirror to redirect blinding light directly to the eye.
The result is severe discomfort and debilitating impact on one’s ability to see – even for a period
of time after the glare is removed, due to the latent effects of such extreme glare. Prevent
