Cabinet: United States Presidential Cabinet
I.
Cabinet Description:
The United States Presidential Cabinet is composed by the senior appointed officers of the
executive branch of the federal government of the United States, who are the heads of the federal
executive departments. A list of the federal departments, and a brief description of them, will be
provided up next.
II. Departments:
1. Department of State
The United States Department of State (DoS), often referred to as the State Department, is the
United States federal executive department responsible for international relations of the United
States, equivalent to the foreign ministry of other countries. Its functions also include protecting and
assisting U.S. citizens living or traveling abroad and assisting U.S. businesses in the international
marketplace.
2. Department of the Treasury
The Department of the Treasury is an executive department and the treasury of the United States
federal government. Its functions include; producing all currency, coinage and postage stamps of the
U.S., collecting taxes, duties and money paid to and due to the United States, and paying all bills of
the country.
3. Department of Defense
The Department of Defense is the executive department of the government of the United States,
who's main task is coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions of the government
concerned directly with national security and the United States Armed Forces. The Department of
Defense controls three other military departments; the U.S. Department of the Army, the U.S.
Department of the Navy, and the U.S. Department of the Air Force which watch over the U.S. Army,
U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and the U.S. Air Force.

4. Department of Justice
The United States Department of Justice is the U.S. federal executive department responsible for the
enforcement of the law and administration of justice inside the country, equivalent to the justice or
interior ministries of other countries.
5. Department of the Interior
The United States Department of the Interior is the United States federal executive department of
the U.S. government responsible for the management and conservation of most federal land and
natural resources, and the administration of programs relating to American Indians, Alaska Natives,
Native Hawaiians, territorial affairs, and isolated areas of the United States.
6. Department of Agriculture
The United States Department of Agriculture is the United States’ federal executive department
responsible for developing and executing federal government policy on farming, agriculture,
forestry, and food. It aims to meet the needs of farmers and ranchers, promote agricultural trade and
production, work to assure food safety, protect natural resources, foster rural communities and end
hunger in the United States and abroad.
7. Department of Commerce
The United States Department of Commerce department of the United States concerned with
promoting economic growth. The mission of the department is to "promote job creation and
improved living standards for all Americans by creating an infrastructure that promotes economic
growth, technological competitiveness, and sustainable development". Among its many tasks are
gathering economic and demographic data for business and government decision-making, issuing
patents and trademarks, and helping to set industrial standards.
8. Department of Labor
The United States Department of Labor the department of the U.S. federal government responsible
for labor safety, wage and hour standards, unemployment insurance benefits, and re-employment
services. The purpose of the Department of Labor is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of
the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions;
advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.

9. Department of Health and Human Services
The United States Department of Health and Human Services, is a department of the U.S. federal
government with the goal of protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human
services. Its motto is "Improving the health, safety, and well-being of America".
10. Department of Housing and Urban Development
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development is a department in the Executive
branch of the United States federal government. Its main goal is; to create strong, sustainable,
inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all.
11. Department of Transportation
The United States Department of Transportation is a federal department of the U.S. government
concerned with transportation. Its mission is to "Serve the United States by ensuring a fast, safe,
efficient, accessible, and convenient transportation system that meets our vital national interests and
enhances the quality of life of the American people, today and into the future."
12. Department of Energy
The United States Department of Energy is the department of the United States government
concerned with the United States' policies regarding energy and safety in handling nuclear material.
Its responsibilities include the nation's nuclear weapons program, nuclear reactor production for the
United States Navy, energy conservation, energy-related research, radioactive waste disposal, and
domestic energy production.
13. Department of Education
The United States Department of Education is the department of the United States government
concerned with education. The primary functions of the Department of Education are to "establish
policy for, administer and coordinate most federal assistance to education, collect data on US
schools, and to enforce federal educational laws regarding privacy and civil rights."

14. Department of Veterans Affairs
The United States Department of Veterans Affairs is a government-run military veteran benefit
system. Its primary function is to support veterans in their time after service by providing benefits
and support. The benefits mentioned include disability compensation, pension, education, home
loans, life insurance, vocational, rehabilitation, survivors’ benefits, medical benefits, and burial
benefits.
15. Department of Homeland Security
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is a department of the United States federal
government, created in response to the September 11 attacks, and with the primary responsibilities
of protecting the United States and its territories from and responding to terrorist attacks, man-made
accidents, and natural disasters.
16. White House Chief of Staff
The White House Chief of Staff is the highest ranking employee of the White House Office inside the
Executive Office of the President of the United States. Its roles are; select key White House staff and
supervise them, structure the White House staff system, protect the interests of the President, and
manage the flow of information throughout the White House.
17. Environmental Protection Agency
The United States Environmental Protection Agency is an agency of the U.S. federal government
which was created for the purpose of protecting human health and the environment by writing and
enforcing regulations based on laws passed by Congress. It has the responsibility of maintaining and
enforcing national standards under a variety of environmental laws, in consultation with state, tribal,
and local governments.
18. Office of Management & Budget
The Office of Management and Budget is the largest office within the Executive Office of the
President of the United States. Its pour pose is to assist the President in overseeing the preparation
of the federal budget and to supervise its administration in Executive Branch agencies.

19. United States Trade Representative
The Office of the United States Trade Representative is the United States government agency
responsible for developing and recommending United States trade policy to the president of the
United States, conducting trade negotiations at different levels, and coordinating trade policy within
the government.
20. United States Mission to the United Nations
The U.S. Mission to the United Nations serves as the United States’ delegation to the United
Nations. It is responsible for carrying out the nation’s participation in the organization. Also, the U.S.
Mission to the United Nations has approximately 150 people on staff who serve to represent the
United States’ political, economic and social, legal, military, public diplomacy and management
interests at the United Nations. 21. Council of Economic Advisers
The Council of Economic Advisers is an agency within the Executive Office of the President that
advises the President of the United States on economic policy. Also, it prepares the annual Economic
Report of the President.
