PRESS RELEASE California State University, Fullerton Public Relations & Marketing, College of the Arts (657) 278-2434 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: OCTOBER 17, 2013 FALL DANCE THEATRE OPENS NOVEMBER 7 AT CSUF Professional and student choreographers present a wide array of dance pieces in Fall Dance Theatre, November 7 - 17, 2013, at California State University, Fullerton. Coordinated by Gladys Kares, the eight choreographed pieces that make up Fall Dance Theatre will be presented in the Little Theatre in the Clayes Performing Arts Center on campus. In “East, West, South, then North,” guest artist Jonathan Fredrickson (Limon Dance Company of NYC, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago) takes inspiration for his choreography from the four cardinal winds. Faculty member Alvin Rangel choreographs his piece, “…Those Left Behind…” to Beethoven’s music and dedicates the piece in memory of Antonio Rangel. Dance student Brennan Renteria choreographs “In Sleep, We Dream” to the music of The Hours by influential American composer Philip Glass. Craig Davis choreographs Kendall Russo’s piece entitled “Where The Pavement Ends,” to music. Davis is a Piano and Composition major at CSUF. Russo says her piece is about “the acceptance of change and individuality.” Faculty member Macarena Gandarillas choreographs a contemporary lyrical piece with 8 dancers and 3 singers, entitled “I’m Still With You.” The piece features all original music by CSUF Musical Theatre student Michael Dashefsky. The modern and jazz piece “Stripped,” by Natalie Baldwin, explores the notion of a “loss of innocence” and features music by Duke Ellington and Miles Davis. “Lalique Deux Danseuses” performed to the music of Chopin, features two dancers who portray crystal figurines that have come to life. CSUF faculty member Robin E. Johnson choreographs the piece. “Unfolding,” choreographed by Kristi Licera, features five dancers and modern dance styles. Scenic Coordination is by Ann Sheffield, Lighting Coordination is by Debra Garcia Lockwood, Costume Coordination is by Bruce Goodrich and the Sound Design is by Harrison Haug. Fall Dance Theatre performs at 8pm on November 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 and at 2pm on November 10, 17. General admission tickets are $11 ($10 with advance Titan Discount purchase or students, seniors or with a CSUF ID). All tickets are $11 at the door.
