Course Title BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Creative Media Production (Film and TV) Exam Board Edexcel Course Description Creative Media Production provides an opportunity to learn and develop the key media industry skills of research, communication and pre-production. These skills are then applied to practical production work in the area of moving image. Oasis Academy, Isle of Sheppey also includes one unit on the medium of radio in this course. Course Content Students study 7 units over two years: Unit 1: Pre-Production Techniques for The Creative Media Industries (compulsory) Unit 2: Communication Techniques for The Creative Media Industries (compulsory) Unit 3: Research methods and Techniques for Creative Media Production (compulsory) Unit 27: Factual Programming for TV Unit 29: Music Video Production Unit 30: Advertising Production for TV Unit 44: Music Based Programming (radio) For each media production they undertake, students must demonstrate they understand the purposes of those products and how they are constructed for intended audiences. They also learn about the legal, moral and ethical issues that apply to the different media sectors. Assessment Assessment is done on theory and practical work throughout the two years and is assignment based. There is no exam. Students produce a portfolio of work which is subject to moderation by the exam board. This course is equivalent to one GCE qualification. Future Opportunities Creative Media Production provides the learner with essential communication and research skills that they can take into any profession or area of further education. The qualification is recognised by universities and employers. Future careers can include teaching, video journalism and film production. Further Information Students must have 5 A-C grades including Maths and English to undertake this course. There is a requirement to produce substantial written reports, present information to peers and adults in written and verbal form and to use radio and film equipment. Media students are often asked to spend time in the school and wider community filming editing events such as sports and performing arts. Although this does not form part of their assessment it is invaluable practice in acquiring the practical skills needed for higher grades. Students enjoy using our Academy’s radio equipment and often discover skills they never had when they start filming and editing in their practical assignments.
