Let’s Review TAKE OUT YOUR NOTES….ADD ANYTHING YOU THINK YOU MAY NEED TO REMEMBER, OR THAT YOU MAY NEED TO STUDY FOR THE GRAMMAR QUIZ. Nouns and Pronouns Nouns A word that names a person, place or thing. Noun types: Proper, common, compound, collective, abstract. Pronouns and Antecedents Pronoun Words that stand for nouns or for words that take the place of nouns. Antecedent Nouns for which the pronouns stand. Let’s Practice – Nouns 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Write a sentence with a collective noun. Write a sentence with a compound noun. Write a sentence with an abstract noun. Write a sentence that uses a common noun and a proper noun. Write a sentence using at least three different types of nouns. ***If any of these nouns types are difficult for you…put a star next to them…that is what you need to study. Verbs – Action and Linking Action Verbs Linking Verbs An action verb is a verb A linking verb is a verb that tells what someone or something is performing. Show mental action and visible action. that connects a word at or near the beginning of a sentence with a word at or near the end. Most common linking verb is some form of the verb be.
