Screening Algorithm for Special Pathogen Diseases
Identify, Isolate, Inform


Has patient lived in or traveled to a
country or state with widespread

Continue with usual triage
and assessment

② Identify Signs and Symptoms
Examples: Fever, rash, cough/other respiratory
symptoms, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, chest
pain, abdominal pain

Provide patient with mask
Move patient 3-6 feet from others
Notify triage nurse for immediate
assessment
Perform hand hygiene on self and request
patient to do same
Initiate contact and airborne precautions
Prepare isolation room, as appropriate
