Avalanche and Punch-Through
(D)
• For very large VDS, IDS increases rapidly due to drain
junction avalanche.
• Can give rise to parasitic bipolar action.
• In short channel transistors, the drain depletion region may
reach the source depletion region giving rise to ‘Punch
Through’.
