inaural OneMic directionality for
hearing aids with one microphone:
Yet another world‘s first from binax.
Until now, automatic directionality could not be offered for
hearing aids equipped with only one microphone. But
thanks to binax, now even very small custom hearing aids –
such as Insio binax CICs – are able to offer binaural OneMic
directionality because they can use the microphone signals
of both instruments in a bilateral setup. As a result, even
CIC wearers can enjoy the benefits of automatic
directionality in noisy situations. And just like all other binax
key features, binaural OneMic directionality works fully
automatically with minimal power consumption.

Binaural hearing means better hearing.

To localise sound sources, maintain spatial orientation, and
understand speech better, our brain utilises information
from both ears. This is especially helpful in noisy and
challenging listening situations like restaurants or parties.

For the best binaural listening experience ever.
In order to emulate natural binaural listening, we first need
to link the two hearing aids, just like the brain uses input
from both ears. Building upon the original e2e technology,
e2e wireless™ 3.0 enables exchange of audio signals
between two hearing aids in a bilateral fitting. As a result,
each hearing aid not only uses the information picked up by
itself, but also the acoustic signals received by the
contralateral hearing aid. In two-microphone instruments,
such as Carat binax, Pure binax, Motion binax, or certain
Insio binax devices, this means each instrument works with
input from four microphones. Together in a bilateral fitting,
they create a virtual eight-microphone network.
Similarly, e2e wireless 3.0 allows single microphone
instruments, such as the tiny Insio binax CICs, to exchange
audio signals between each other. In bilateral fittings, they
create a virtual four-microphone network.

These virtual microphone networks provide a heightened
sensitivity of the acoustic environment: We call this
“High Definition Sound Resolution”, or HDSR.
HDSR is the basis for the binax features that offer an
exceptional binaural listening experience. In fact, HDSR is
so powerful that certain binax hearing aids are clinically
proven to allow wearers to hear in cocktail-party like
situations even better than those with normal hearing.*
What’s more, this outstanding hearing technology is
incredibly energy efficient. While providing outstanding

Narrow directionality and
binaural OneMic directionality:
Hearing that is more precise than ever.
Especially in places with a lot of background noise, it is difficult for hearing
aid wearers to understand speech clearly. Narrow directionality
automatically focuses on the speaker immediately in front of the wearer. It is
able to narrow the beam of the directional microphones and to help
understand speech in noisy places like restaurants. In fact, clinical studies
have shown that narrow directionality is so effective that it allows users to
understand speech better than those with normal hearing in situations like
cocktail parties.*
As another world's first, binaural OneMic directionality lets even wearers
of single-microphone hearing aids experience the benefits of automatic
directionality – so they can follow conversations in noisy environments more

Understanding everybody clearly – from all directions.
Wearers of traditional hearing instruments can find it hard to focus on
speech when it comes from different directions, such as when riding in
a car. Spatial SpeechFocus™ automatically focuses on the main speech
source, regardless of where it comes from – be it from the front, back or
even sides. At the same time it attenuates noise from other directions.

Adaptive streaming volume enhances the listening experience when
streaming audio with easyTek™. No matter which situation, adaptive

Spatial Configurator:
Completely personalised hearing.
Even the smartest hearing aids won't be able to know how the wearer
wants to hear all the time. As an addition to automatic functions that adapt
to changing acoustic environments, Spatial Configurator empowers wearers
to control their hearing instruments in unique listening situations. Via the
easyTek and easyTek App, they can individually adjust the span of their
directional microphone focus beams, and decide how much of their
environment they want to hear. Spatial Configurator also gives wearers the
ability to indicate the direction of where their microphones should be
focused – the front, the back or even the sides.

Minimised design, maximised performance.
Until today, wearers of traditional custom hearing aids always had to decide
between technology and size: Tiny, discreet hearing instruments could not
be equipped with many technological features, while high-tech custom
instruments used to sit visibly in the ear. Now with Insio binax custom
hearing aids, we managed to narrow this gap.
In order to limit the instruments’ critical length, we rotated the receiver.
This gave us space and allowed us to optimally position the components.
Now, an improved wireless coil could be moved closer to the receiver. An
electromagnetic shield protects the components against interference. As a
result, the hearing aids can be built smaller and more compact than ever
before and even provide enhanced functionality.

By improving the coil, the quality of the wireless
functionality in CICs has reached an unprecedented level.
Now it is possible to integrate e2e wireless 3.0 into these
tiny custom hearing aids. This means that for the first time
ever, even CICs can now exchange audio data and provide
the advantages of the supreme binax technology.
The combination of this advanced construction and binax
BestSound Technology means that even hearing aids with
only one microphone – such as tiny CICs – can now perform
better than ever before while they can be built even smaller.

When technology improves nature: Sitting deep in the ear canal, CICs use
the natural pinna effect for directional hearing to the front. Now equipped
with the superior binax technology, even tiny hearing aids with only one
microphone, such as CICs, can make use of e2e wireless 3.0 audio exchange
technology. In a bilateral fitting, each hearing aid uses the information from
its own microphone and from the other instrument's. This generates a
virtual four-microphone network which allows for HDSR, and builds
improved directionality to the front. This is what we call binaural OneMic
directionality.

microphone, such as tiny CICs, can offer true
directionality. Sitting in the ear canal,
standard CICs benefit from the directional

1. Hearing aids
Step 1:
Put easyTek around your
customer’s neck.
Turn easyTek on by pressing 1
until the green LED 5 turns on.
Step 2:
Put the hearing aids into the ears
and turn them on.
The green LED 5 flashes briefly
and then slowly fades.
Now the hearing aids are paired.
2. Bluetooth-enabled devices
Step 1:
Turn easyTek on by pressing and
holding 1 for several seconds.
Press 1 and 2 simultaneously
until the blue LED 4 flashes.
Step 2:
Turn on the device’s Bluetooth
function.
Search for easyTek and select it.
The blue LED 4 flashes briefly
and then slowly fades.
3. Transmitter
Step 1:
Turn easyTek on by pressing and
holding 1 for several seconds.
Press 1 and 2 and 3
simultaneously until the blue
LED 4 and the green LED 5
flash.
Step 2:
Turn the transmitter on within
1 m of easyTek and wait for the
pairing to complete. This takes
approximately 2 minutes.
The blue LED 4 will stop flashing
and remain on.
