Conference on “Future Directions for Lightweight Materials and
Structures”, 30th June 2016
The National Space Centre, Exploration Drive, Leicester LE4 5NS.
A conference organised by the East Midlands Materials Society in
conjunction with the British Composites Society and Light Metals Division
of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3).
Scope and Background:
This conference aims to consider the challenges and opportunities for the optimum
use of lightweight materials in engineering structures. The problems will be looked
at from both a materials and applications perspective. Environmental issues will
also be addressed.
Format and Preliminary Programme:
The venue for this conference is the prestigious National Space Centre in Leicester
(LE4 5NS). It is easily accessible by car, and there is extensive free car parking (by
permit). It is also a short bus or taxi ride from the mainline railway station in
Leicester. Further details of the venue are available on www.spacecentre.co.uk.
Registration will commence at 10.30 and a finger buffet lunch will be available from
12:30, served in the Booster Room, Early registrants will have the opportunity to
visit the exhibition areas of the Space Centre at no extra charge. The conference
will be formally opened at 13:15. Lunch and afternoon refreshments are included in
the registration fee. The programme will feature a full afternoon of Invited
Speakers, plus an opportunity for networking and a further look at sponsors and
other exhibits. The conference will finish at 18.45
A wide number of solutions to problems encountered in high technology industries
will be presented, and there will, no doubt, be different solutions to similar problems
in different industries.
