Gathering of Climate-ADAPT use cases (draft template)
Climate-ADAPT aims to collect information on adaptation relevant at European level. By presenting
the information in the specific policy context and by using functionalities to allow an easy uptake of
the information Climate-ADAPT aims to turn the information into knowledge for informed decision
making on adaptation in Europe.
In order to inspire experts to make use of the online knowledge platform we would like to collect
examples of cases where Climate-ADAPT knowledge has been successful used.
We would appreciate very much if you filled in the template with your own information and send it
to us via email ([email protected] ) by 28 April 2017.
There is an example given for each question in order to give some inspiration on how to describe the
use of the specific Climate-ADAPT feature1. We will use this information as the evidence base to
further develop illustrative use cases presented in the 2017 EEA report “Evaluation of the European
Climate Adaptation Platform- Climate-ADAPT”. We will come back to you in order to get more
detailed information on the specific case you have provided.
1. What feature of Climate-ADAPT have you used? Please specify the URL of the respective
page.
Example:
http://climate-adapt.eea.europa.eu/countries-regions/countries and individual country pages
Country pages/Slovakia (http://climate-adapt.eea.europa.eu/countries-regions/countries/slovakia )
2. In what role did you use the specific Climate-ADAPT feature?
1
Climate-ADAPT feature means specific parts of information presented on the platform such as descriptive
pages, tools or the database.
1
Example:
As the Secretariat of the Carpathian Convention we have used Climate ADAPT to take stock of
existing policies and programmes to provide an assessment of climate change impacts, vulnerability
and adaptation at the transnational level (“Carpathian Outlook”) for the entire area of the
Carpathian Convention and have fed this information into assessments at the global level.
3. For which purpose have you successfully used or are you successfully using the specific
information presented on Climate-ADAPT?
Example:
Providing information on key national level adaptation policies in the countries covered by the
Carpathian Convention as basic information that was sent to the countries in a pre-filled
questionnaire for the collection of additional and more mountain-specific information on climate
change, impacts, vulnerabilities and existing adaptation actions. The information collected is being
used for the preparation of the “Mountain Adaptation Outlook Series"
(http://www.grida.no/activities/25) (still ongoing).
4. How did the Climate-ADAPT content enable you to achieve your goal?
Example:
The information presented on the country pages provides trusted information that has been
approved at national government level based on reporting according to the Monitoring Mechanism
Regulation (EU) No 525/2013 ), and is updated annually by the EEA Member countries on a voluntary
basis. The content provided in the pages includes the most relevant information for our specific task
(overview on the national adaptation policy and links to key policy documents). The country
information is concise and was used as a starting point to ask the countries for more specific
information.
5. How did the Climate-ADAPT platform functionalities enable you to achieve your goal?
2
Example:
The interactive map viewer (http://climate-adapt.eea.europa.eu/countries-regions/countries)
allowed us to find the information for each country. Due to the factsheet character of the pages the
information presented is comparable across all countries covered by the Carpathian Convention. The
“export to pdf” functionality on the bottom of each country page allowed an easy export of the
information for further use in our documents.
6. What would you need to make the knowledge even more useful for your specific needs?
Example:
No information for this example provided.
7. What was the added value of using the specific Climate-ADAPT feature?
Example:
The use of the information provided on the Climate-ADAPT country pages facilitated the collection of
updated and specific information from the Carpathian Convention countries for a regional
assessment Mountain Adaptation Outlook Series" (http://www.grida.no/activities/25) (still ongoing).
Furthermore, it prompted the submission of information for a new Climate-ADAPT page with
information on adaptation for the Carpathian convention area at the transnational level.
