Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
He died on November 6th, 1896 in St. Petersburg
Born on May 7th 1840 in Kamsko-Votkinsk
He was fifty-three years old when he died
He wrote six symphonies
He died shortly after the premiere of his last one ( the Pathetique)
His music was very emotional
He was a Russian composer
His works included symphonies, concertos, operas, ballets and chamber music.
He was most famous for composting the Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Swan
Lake.
He wrote the music for Romeo & Juliet
His mother died when he was just a mere fourteen years of age. He was then forced
to attend military boarding school.
He found comfort in music.
He was forced to keep his homosexuality private which caused trouble and
depression in his life.
Later on, one kind friend helped him through the rough times and made him a more
peaceful and content person.
People assume that his death was related to cholera but suicide may have also been
a possibility.
He had piano lessons at a very young age
His only brother’s name was Modest.
Tchaikovsky admired Mozart.
He was born into a fairly wealthy, middle-class family.
He learned to read French and German by the age of six.
He sang in choir in his teenage years but did not seriously study music.

when he was ten. However, the minimum age was twelve so he was sent to
boarding school.
He didn’t study music until after he graduated from boarding school in 1859
Pyotr started to take classes at the Petersburg Conservatory in 1862
He quit his job as a clerk at the Ministry of Magic to devote his life to music.
He became a harmony teacher for the Moscow Conservatory in 1866
He did not compose for anyone in particular.
He was a bachelor for most of his life
He moved to Moscow in January, 1866
He finished his first symphony, “Winter Daydreams” at the end of November in
1866, at the age of 26.
