From spay and neuter operations to orthopedic care, our veterinary care team
provides cat dog, rabbit, rat, and ferret surgery in our state-of-the-art surgical
suite. We understand that any operation, no matter how routine, can be
stressful for pets and their owners. Our professional approach when offering pet
surgery services is to integrate the highest quality of care and compassion with
the strictest safety standards. Thanks to advanced diagnostics, cutting-edge
procedures and stringent pain management protocols, your pet will be in safe
hands with our experienced veterinary surgical team.
Prior to Surgery
Before scheduling your pet’s procedure, a comprehensive physical exam (which
includes bloodwork) will be performed to make sure your pet is a good
candidate for surgery. Once the doctor is confident, we will work with you to
schedule a day for your pet’s surgery. You will then be provided with a detailed
treatment plan which includes an estimate of all costs involved, based on the
doctor’s recommendations. This will include pre-op, surgical and post-op
expenses (i.e. bloodwork, anesthetic, surgical procedures, nursing care, pain
management, etc.).
The day before your pet’s scheduled surgery, our receptionist will call to
confirm your appointment. Your pet should have no food after Midnight the
night before. Water is permitted up until you drop your pet off. If your pet is
on any medications, please check with your doctor to determine whether they
should be given on the morning of surgery.
**Please note if you are dropping off a rabbit for surgery feeding your rabbit
before surgery is permitted!**
Surgery Day
The morning of your pet’s surgery, we will be there to greet you and get your
loved one settled in and acclimated to us and his or her surroundings. You
should plan on spending approximately 10 minutes with one of our technicians
that morning while we check your pet in, fill out paperwork and go over the
details of the surgery. We also encourage you to ask any questions or voice
any concerns that you may have at this time so that we may set your mind at
ease before you leave your pet with us.
Once your pet is settled in, we will begin by conducting our pre-anesthetic
blood work and preparing your pet to receive fluids and pain medication. It’s
very important to us that our patients remain as comfortable and pain-free as
possible at all times while in our care, which is why we take extra care in
customizing, administering and managing the safest and most effective pain
control medication available. A sedative injection will be given to help your pet
relax and allow us to prepare him or her for surgery.
It’s important to point out that there are always risks involved with surgery,
whether for human beings or our pets. Anesthesia can be a special concern for
various reasons, such as age or the existence of certain medical conditions.
Our veterinarians take every precaution for the best outcome in every aspect of
surgery. Each patient is treated with the utmost care and the anesthesia is
tailored to their specific needs.
A combination of drugs, calculated according to the specific needs and risk
factors associated with your pet, will be used to keep your loved one
comfortable, relaxed and free from discomfort and pain – before, during and
after the procedure. Once under the anesthetic, the technician will keep your
pet’s airway open and clear to provide oxygen and sustain the anesthetic.
We provide a cozy heat source during and after surgery to maintain proper
body temperature. All vital signs are watched carefully using a state of the art
vital signs monitor while the doctor performs surgery. We will work as diligently
and efficiently as possible to complete the procedure in a way that keeps your
pet safe and minimizes the amount of time he or she remains sedated.
Post Surgery
Once your pet’s surgery is complete, he or she will be carefully relocated to
our hospital recovery area, where our technicians will continue monitoring as
the anesthesia begins to wear off. A technician or doctor will call you shortly
after this point to give you an update on how the procedure went and advise
you on how your pet is recovering.
Discharge is typically between 4:00pm and 5:00pm on the same day as the
surgery, depending on what kind surgery your pet has had. Animals that have
had more complex surgeries may require additional time in the hospital before
they are ready to go home. At your discharge appointment, we will carefully go
over our instructions for your pet’s aftercare at home, including any
medications necessary to manage pain during the recovery period.
In the days following your pet’s surgery, you are encouraged to call with any
questions or concerns that might come up. The doctor and/or technicians will
also call you for periodic progress updates and to check on how your pet’s
recovery is going.
A follow up appointment is scheduled at time of pick up so we can make sure
your pets incisions are healing properly, and there will also be a suture removal
scheduled if your pet has sutures.
Hospice Care Supports Pets & Owners
We provide a quiet, restful atmosphere where your companion is expertly cared
for, allowing those final moments to be filled with compassion and peace. Our
team is committed to providing the compassion and respect your pet deserves
at the end of life.
End of Life
The decision to euthanize your pet is never an easy one. Our veterinary team
understands the emotional difficulty that comes along with this decision. We
take time to talk with you, explaining all options and answering any questions
you may have.
Most importantly, we provide you and your pet with all the support, information,
and care you need during the process. Our priority is to ensure a peaceful and
comfortable passing and to treat each step with care and respect.
General Medicine
Our hospital offers treatment for all types of your pet’s ailments. Wellness visits
entail a thorough physical exam and all recommended immunizations and can
include routine laboratory testing when needed. Our doctors and technicians
attend continuing education every year to stay informed about the newest
medical concepts and treatments. We offer standard medical treatments as well
as integrative medicine, including acupuncture, laser therapy, and herbal
medicine, to offer our clients a variety of options from which to choose. When
you come in for an appointment, your veterinarian will discuss which option
may be the most beneficial for your pet.
Dentistry
We provide a complete dental service that is commonly overlooked by most owners.
Home dental care is where prevention starts, but we understand that is not always
practical because our pets may not be “cooperative”. Greater than 80% of our pets
have some form of periodontal disease by the time they are 3 years of age. We do a
thorough prophylactic scaling, polishing and fluoride treatment when a dental is
deemed necessary by our veterinary staff. We perform dental radiology at the time of
the cleaning to identify disease under the gum line to get a complete picture of your
pet’s mouth. We perform tooth extractions, gingival closures, and bonding as part of
our dental services if needed.
Please ask our team about information about dental disease prevention you
can take home at any one of your visits.
In-House Laboratory Testing
Our clinic provides the most updated in-house laboratory testing systems to
provide vital information about your pet in a prompt manner. Our equipment
can produce results within 30 minutes of submitting the sample, thus enabling
us to initiate treatment for your pet as quickly as possible.
Our in-house lab can perform tests for complete blood counts, full chemistries,
electrolytes, and complete urinalysis. Other in-house testing will be available as
we continuously update our equipment. We also use a commercial laboratory
for routine testing that provides your pet’s results within 24 hours of
submission.
Emergency and Critical Care
Emergencies, accidents, and illnesses are unfortunate facts of life, but how
many of us plan for the unthinkable before it happens? What would you do if
your pet were suddenly sick or injured? Do you have a plan? Do you know
where to go for help if your pet needed critical care or had to be hospitalized?
We understand how upsetting it is when your pet is sick or injured. We also
know that when your pet is hospitalized and needs critical care services, you
want the very best level of care possible. For these reasons, we offer
emergency and critical care veterinary medical services. Our expert health care
team is staffed with caring, compassionate, highly skilled professionals who are
dedicated to providing quality care for your pet.
Your pet is a special member of your family and provides you with
companionship, entertainment, and unconditional love. But your pet relies on
you for daily needs such as food, shelter, and safety and to take care of
things when they go wrong. Our expert emergency and critical care
professionals will be there for you when you need us. Our veterinarians and
technical support staff are on premises working as a team with expertise to
respond to emergency calls and critical care situations. Rest assured, if you
ever have an emergency with your pet, there is quality veterinary help nearby.
Help is only a phone call away. Keep our phone number with your other
emergency numbers, and call us any time.
Microchipping
Each year, thousands of pets go missing, and many don’t make it back home.
Many pets (especially indoor pets) don’t wear collars or tags. Even if your pet
wears a collar and identification tag, collars can break off and tags can
become damaged and unreadable, so these forms of identification may not be
enough to ensure your pet’s safe return. Your pet needs a form of identification
that is reliable and can’t get lost, stolen, or damaged. A microchip is a safe,
simple form of identification that can significantly increase the chance that your
pet will return safely.
A microchip is about the size and shape of a grain of rice and is placed
underneath your pet's skin between the shoulder blades. Microchip implantation
takes only a few minutes and is very safe. Each microchip is unique and carries
vital information about your pet—including your name, address, and contact
information. When a microchip is implanted, the pet owner is given a
registration form to complete. Registering the number on the microchip includes
your pet in a national pet recovery database. Veterinary hospitals, animal
shelters, and animal control offices across the country are equipped with
special electronic scanners that can detect the microchip and read the
identification number. If a lost pet is picked up by animal control or found by a
Good Samaritan and presented to a veterinarian, a quick scan of the microchip
reveals the identification number. A toll-free phone call to the pet recovery
database alerts the microchip company that a lost pet has been identified. The
pet owner can then be contacted and reunited with his or her pet!
Young puppies and kittens can receive microchips, but even if your pet is
already an adult, you should consider microchipping. Even indoor pets can get
outside accidentally and get lost, so if you’re relying on other forms of
identification, you could be placing your pet at risk. Microchipping is a safe,
effective way to help ensure your pet’s return if the unthinkable happens.
