TROPICAL OR WESTERN AND SIDEREAL OR HINDU ASTROLOGY TROPICAL or WESTERN astrology is known as SAYAN astrology. Western astrology and its circular chart pattern is commonly used in Europe, America, and many other countries in the WEST. Circular birth chart pattern is commonly used by Western Astrologers throughout the world. WESTERN or TROPICAL astrology is based upon the SUN, and therefore sometimes known as “SOLAR” astrology. This tropical zodiac is known as “Moving Zodiac” also. In this system, individual’s zodiac sign is known from the sun position at the time, place, and date of birth. You all know that the SUN stays full month in a particular zodiac sign, and passes through all the 12 signs of the zodiac in a year. So there are 12 types or kinds of people born during the year, in the whole world. You have learnt, about TROPICAL or WESTERN zodiacs as well as HINDU or SIDEREAL zodiacs in greater details, in the previous chapter. So we do not want to waste our valuable time here. You also know Solar and Lunar astrology. Solar astrology, is the astrology of the Sun, and Lunar astrology is the astrology of the Moon. Thus Tropical zodiac is solar and Sidereal zodiac is Lunar. (moving and fixed zodiacs) What is the difference in predicting the events in both the systems ? In Tropical or Western system of astrology aspect and transits of the planets through the birth chart play important part. Remember, in Western astrology, you will find only one Birth Chart called Horoscope. The predictions or forecasts depend solely on the planetary positions, housing system, and aspects of the planets. While In Hindu Astrology, different charts are to be made, such as Birth Chart, Bhava Chart, Navamsha Chart and Rashi chart. These charts are almost commonly used in Horoscope booklets, prepared in traditional Sanskrit printed form, by astrologers in India. On and above these, there are other Charts also. Here we do not want to discuss them. We have to check all these charts, in deciding the strength of the planets and houses before giving forecasts. TRANSITS In Hindu astrology, transit is taken into consideration. But its system is quite different to Western system. There is no uniformity in both the systems. In Tropical or Western Astrology, transits are considered from the Birth chart only. While In Hindu Astrology transits are considered from the Rashi Chart (Moon Chart), as Moon is considered as the Mind and Moon chart is most prominent in interpretations. Hindu astrology is famous and unique for its Dasha system known as Planetary Periods or Planetary Cycles of life. You will not find this system in any of the astrological text books, EXCEPT Indian classical text books. Also Hindu astrology takes into considerations “ YOGAS “, configuration of planets, which may be benefic or malefic, depending upon the planetary configuration. These Yogas may give favourable or unfavourable results in their main and sub periods or cycles of life. TROPICAL or WESTERN astrology - or sometimes known as SAYAN astrology, which is commonly used in WESTERN countries, USA., Europe, and now many countries in the WEST. Circular birth chart pattern is commonly used by Western Astrologers throughout the world. WESTERN or TROPICAL astrology is based upon the SUN, and therefore sometimes known as “SOLAR” astrology. In this system, individual’s zodiac sign is known from the Sun position at the time, place, and date of birth, You all know that the SUN stays full month in a particular zodiac sign, and passes through all the 12 signs of the zodiac in a year. So there are 12 types or kinds of people born during the year, in the world. When the SUN is in a particular sign, at the time of a birth of an individual, he or she is known by the zodiac sign of the sun at the time of birth. According to Western or Tropical zodiac, the SUN enters round about the 21st March each year in the zodiac sign of ARIES, and is in the same sign up to 20th APRIL, beginning from 0 degrees to 30 degrees of ARIES. All the individuals born during this period are known as “ARIANS” Their TROPICAL SUN sign is ARIES. There are 12 signs of the zodiac, starting from Aries to Pisces, each of 30 degrees each, totalling 360 degrees in the full zodiac. The Sun moves through all the 12 zodiac signs in a year, passing through each sign in a month, and completing all the 12 signs in a year. According to Western or Tropical astrology, people born in different signs of the zodiac, are known by the signs, they are born with. Individuals born from 21st March to 20th April in any year, are known as “Arians”, 21st April to 20th May Taurians, and so on. (2) SIDEREAL OR HINDU ASTROLOGY HINDU OR SIDEREAL ASTROLOGY follows the moon, and therefore is known as “LUNAR astrology”, also. MOON moves around all the 12 signs of the zodiac in about a month. Thus we can get 12 signs of the zodiac, in a month. Individuals born during the month, will be of all the 12 different zodiac signs. In this way we will have 144 combinations during the year. In one month the Sun gives one Zodiac signs, while the moon gives all the 12 Zodiac signs. Sidereal or Hindu astrology gives more prominence to the moon rather than the Sun. Western astrology gives birth signs according to the position of the Sun in a certain sign on a certain date. Thus there are 12 divisions in a year, starting from ARIES to PISCES, as per Western astrology. In Hindu astrology Moon sign is considered as the most important sign. The Moon moves round all the zodiac signs in approximately a month. All the individuals born in a month, take moon Sign, as per time and date of birth, as per moon position in the sky at the time and date of birth. The moon gives 12 different types of individuals in a month. In this way Hindu astrology gives more clear picture of a person. Moon controls our minds. There is one important point to remember in Hindu astrology. Hindu astrology gives importance to the moon and the constellations known as Nakshatras. The zodiac signs are known from the certain groups of stars (Constellations). When the moon passes through such constellations or zodiac sign, it gives the moon zodiac sign, or Rashi sign at birth. JYOTISH (ASTROLOGY) is one of the six Angas (part) of the VEDAS and without the study of it, the study of Vedic lore is considered to be INCOMPLETE. This is a DIVINE science and is a great help to the mankind. This science is very helpful to every individual. It is like a light in darkness. JYOTISH has undoubtedly been studied by all nations throughout the world from time immemorial. India, Egypt, Chaldea, China, Japan, Tibet, Iran, Greek, have studied this subject and made valuable contributions. Hindu ASTROLOGY is primarily based on NAKSHATRAS or what we call as Constellations. There are 27 Nakshatras or constellations, starting from ASHWINI to REVATI. Indian or Hindu vedic astrology has significance of these constellations. Hindu astrology is connected with constellation or Nakshatras, and therefore it is sometimes known as LUNAR ASTROLOGY or ASTROLOGY OF THE FIXED STARS. This system is sometimes known as NIRAYAN or SIDEREAL also.
