INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS for the RESIDUAL VOLTAGE DEVICE READ CAREFULLY The Residual Voltage Device unit provides additional layers of electrical protection to any RCD/RCBO enabling enhanced operation within earthed and unearthed environments, providing a broader range of fault detection. SAFE ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY ABN: 89 144 825 794 PO Box 268, The Junction 2291 [email protected] phone: 0488 068 009 The RCD/RCBO remains the front line of protection, detecting and isolating earth related current imbalance fault conditions, Provides enhanced electrical protection in high impedance Earth situations that have geographically inherent problems such as sandy/hard rocky soils where achieving a low impedance earth is difficult, Enables RCD/RCBO to provide electrical protection within IT and TT earthing systems. Provides protection if Supply Neutral or Main Earth is Lost. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS Only to be installed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor. 1. When Active to Earth faults occurs the RCBO (Not supplied) should trip at 30mA, once the fault has cleared simply turn RCBO to the on position. 2. When an Active to Frame voltage fault (43Volts) occurs, the Residual Voltage Device should trip at 20mA. Once the fault clears, reset the Residual Voltage Device flag and RCD/RCBO to the ‘on’ position. 3. Total current of protected circuits must not exceed maximum current rating of the RCD/RCBO. 4. Fixed appliances such as ovens and hot water services should be connected on individual circuits as RCD/RCBO’s can be sensitive with these products. 5. Ensure the ‘Main Earth’ and ‘Main Neutral’ are in good condition. 6. Always follow the RCD/RCBO manufacturer’s instructions, the Residual Voltage Device instructions are to be used in addition to those instructions. 7. Installation Procedure The Residual Voltage Device unit is designed for final sub-circuit protection in low voltage installations (240V or 110V). Ensure Power is isolated and RCD/RCBO is in the ‘off’ position and ‘lock out’ procedures followed. Check that the rated voltage of the RCD/RCBO installation to be protected is in accordance with manufacturers specifications. Please note that the Residual Voltage Device does not need to sit immediately alongside the RCD/RCBO, but cables will need to be run to the RCD/RCBO. Give consideration to this during ‘planning’ for the installation. 1. Mount the RVD unit onto the Din Rail either ‘next to or nearby’ the RCD/RCBO circuit to be protected. 2. Cut the Yellow/Green Earth/Frame cable to length and terminate in earth link or equipment frame, 3. Cut to length and insert additional Blue/Black Neutral cable between the RCD/RCBO Lineside/Supply Neutral (L2) cage terminal and the Residual Voltage Device Line side cage terminal. 4. Cut to length and insert Brown/Red Active cable between the RCD/RCBO Load-side Active or L1 cage terminal and the Residual Voltage Device Load side cage terminal. All terminations should be tightened to a torque of 2Nm or RCD/RCBO manufacturers specified torque setting. Note: If using in IT or TT earthing systems, ensure that RCD/RCBO is capable of double pole switching- isolating both Active/L1 and Neutral/L2 conductors. RESIDUAL VOLTAGE DEVICE WIRING DIAGRAM TEST THE UNIT MONTHLY - INSTRUCTIONS 1. Test in conjunction with RCD/RCBO. 2. Both the RCD/RCBO and RVD’s need to be tested monthly. 3. First press the test button on the RCD/RCBO. To reset, reposition the RCD/RCBO to the ‘on’ position. 4. Test the Residual Voltage Device by pressing the orange test button. The RCD/RCBO will isolate. To reset, depress the blue flag and turn the RCD/RCBO to the ‘on’ position. 5. Insert RCD Tester and carry out testing as per Manufacturer’s Instructions after setting trip level at 30mA. 6. If the Residual Voltage Device does not isolate or allow RCD/RCBO to reset, after verifying that 43 volts is not present on the frame, then the unit may be faulty. Discontinue use, if applicable return to Safe Electrical Technology for repair. Note: 2 lights for MEN and 3 lights for Isolated earthing systems is normal, proceed with normal test regime. Some automated RCD Testers will not permit testing as ‘No earth’ is present. SET recommends use of Testers without the ‘No earth’ function. WARRANTY 1. The benefits conferred herein are in addition to, and in no way shall be deemed to derogate; either expressly or by implication, any or all other rights and remedies in respect to this Safe Electrical Technology Product, which the consumer has under the Trade Practices Act or any other similar State or Territory Laws. 2. The Warrantor is Safe Electrical Technology Pty Ltd of PO Box 268, The Junction 2291. 3. This product is guaranteed against faulty workmanship and materials for a period of twelve months from the date of installation. 4. Safe Electrical Australia Pty Ltd reserves the right to determine whether to repair or replace any faulty product free of charge for parts and labour or to give a refund in respect of the faulty product. 5. This warranty is expressly subject to the device being installed, wired, tested, operated and used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. 6. Should the product, the subject of the claim, be found to be in good working order all costs of the claim shall be met by the customer. 7. If making a claim the customer shall forward the device to PO Box 268, The Junction 2291, together with adequate particulars of the defect within 14 days after the appearance thereof.
