General presentation Rectiphase produces medium voltage capacitor units called "PROPIVAR". These units are used in MV capacitor banks to built power factor correction systems, and/or harmonic filtering solutions. Available models PROPIVAR range includes three types of capacitors: - Three-phase capacitor units, - Single-phase capacitor units, with internal fuses, - Single-phase capacitor units, without internal fuses, Three-phase capacitor Single-phase capacitor 2. Standards PROPIVAR capacitor units are designed, manufactured and tested according to relevant IEV recommendations: - IEC 60871-1 & 2 - BS 1650 - VDE 0560 - C22-2 N° 190-M1985 Capacitor units fitted with internal fuses also comply with the following standards: - NF C 54-102 - IEC 60871-4 3. Technical characteristic 3.1 Installation PROPIVAR capacitor units are designed to be used indoor or outdoor. They can be installed inside cubicles or in open racks. 3.2 Ambient temperature Our capacitor units are designed to operate permanently in ambient temperature conditions from -25 to +55°C (D class temperature category). The use of insulated racks and connection in series of several capacitor units allow the construction of capacitor banks up to 400kV. 4.1 Acceptable overcurrent and overvoltage PROPIVAR capacitor units are designed for: - 1,10 x Un overvoltage - 12 hours per day, - 1,15 x Un power frequency overvoltage - 30 minutes per day, - Permanent overcurrent : 1,3 x In. Three-phase and single-phase PROPIVAR capacitor units can be used on both 50 or 60Hz electrical networks. 4.2 Design voltage, design power and marking According to IEC 60871 recommendations, capacitor units nameplates shall indicate the maximum power and voltage for which it is designed. As a consequence, our capacitor units nameplates show these design power and design voltage values (Qdim and Vdim). Operating values can be equal or lower than these values (Qn and Vn). The documents supplied with our medium voltage products (price lists, order forms, catalogues, …) provide reactive power values for the most common network voltages. If the required voltage does not appear in the tables, it is possible to make a calculation using the formulae: Qn = (Vn/Vdim)² x Qdim Last update : 2017-05-12 -4- Specification for Tender 582778924 5. Technology PROPIVAR capacitor units use "all film" technology: each capacitor element is made of two aluminium foils and several polypropylen films. These elements are connected in series-parallel groups to make the active part of the capacitor. This active part goes in a metallic case which is filled with a dielectric liquid (JARYLEC or SAS 40) (*) and hermetically closed. The metallic case finishing includes : sand blasting, zinc coating (80µm) and vinylique paint. It is suitable for any outdoor type ambient conditions. Two fixing brackets allow vertical or horizontal mounting of the capacitor units. A oblong hole is available in each bracket to permit fixing of the unit (to be used with M10 screws). Two (for single-phase units) or three (for three-phase units) epoxy resin bushings are used for the electrical connexion of the capacitor. (M16 screws). (*) JARYLEC and SAS 40 are PCB free and Chlorine free liquids. As far as technically possible, "internal fuse" technology is used for our single-phase capacitor units. In case of internal fault, the fuse of the defective element blows and disconnect it from the others. According to electrical characteristics and internal arrangement, a quantity of melted fuses is allowed during normal operation. This technology increase the service continuity and improve reliability of the capacitor bank. "Double star" is the compulsory connexion diagram for this technology. According to IEC 60871 requirements and other major international standards, PROPIVAR capacitor units also include discharge resistors. The resistance value is such as the residual voltage is lower than 75V within 10 minutes after disconnection of the bank from the power supply. Dielectric materials, internal resistors and internal fuses generate losses. The total amount for one capacitor unit depends on its electrical characteristics but can be estimated as below: - 0,16 W/kvar for PROPIVAR capacitor units with internal fuses, - 0,12 W/kvar for PROPIVAR capacitor units without internal fuses. 6. Operating conditions 6.1 Protection against internal faults: PROPIVAR capacitor units have to be protected according to Rectiphase recommendations and sepcification. Three-phase capacitor units must be protected with HRC fuses. Current rating of the fuses must take into account the possible peak inrush current due to capacitor switching. It should be at least 1,8 x In. Single-phase capacitor units have to be double star connected. An unbalance protection device, using unbalance CT and overcurrent relay, shall be used. Unbalance protection settings (current and time delay thresholds) have to be checked and approved by Rectiphase. Last update : 2017-05-12 -5- Specification for Tender 582778924 6.2 Inrush current limiting device PROPIVAR capacitor units are designed to be able to withstand 100 x In transient overcurrents but switching capacitor banks can sometime lead to higher values. Inrush current limiting reactors is the device which has to be used to remain within acceptable limits. Warning: Specifically designed and type tested switchgear has to used for capacitor bank operation and protection. (Technical characteristics and specific type test reports from switchgear suppliers have to be supplied) 7. Options and accessories Two options are available for PROPIVAR capacitor units: Connector (clamp) for one conductor (for one bushing) Connector (clamp) for two conductors (for one bushing) 8. Factory tests Each PROPIVAR capacitor unit manufactured by Rectiphase must pass routine testing before delivery. The factory routine tests are performed according to IEC relevant recommendations and include the following: - capacitance measurement, - loss angle measurement (tg ), - sealing test, - internal discharge resistor value checking, - voltage test between terminals, - voltage test between terminals and container, 9.
