AnyMedia® Access System
Release 1.6.2
PFU502
POWER FILTER UNIT (PFU)
1
Overview
The Power Filter Unit (PFU) is designed as a plug-in and connects the DC
powered AnyMedia Access System with the external power supply through
one power supply bus (-48AE or -48BE) or two power supply busses
(-48AE and -48BE).
The PFU502 offers filtering and overvoltage protection to the outputs.
2
Features and Functions
The main features/functions of the PFU502 are as follows:
Noise filtering of both DC power inputs in both directions
Protection of AnyMedia Access Systems against transient overvoltages
Supply of redundant powering
Voltage gap buffering up to 5 ms at nominal voltage
Surge protection up to 1 kV
Limiting inrush current in accordance with ETS 300 132-2.

Description
This data sheet describes the PFU502 plug-in (Comcode 109205716).
The PFU502 is build up as an insertion circuit pack and connects the DC powered
AnyMedia Access System with the external power supply through one power supply bus (-48AE or -48BE) or through two power supply busses (-48AE and -48BE).
Each power supply bus is able to deliver the entire input power of approximately
453 W to the system.
Half of the -48V DC input power is delivered by the -48A line and the common
-48RTN line, the other half of the input power is delivered by the -48B line and the
common -48RTN line.
The PFU502 provides gradual charging of the capacitors.
The inrush current surge is limited according ETS 300 132-2.
Figure 1 shows the block diagram of the PFU502, the faceplate is shown in
Figure 2.

DANGER:
ARCING
Arcing on removing or inserting the Power Filter Unit. Arcing can cause
burns to the hands and damage to the eyes.
Ensure that the DC circuit-breakers on the fuse panel are in the “OFF” position
before removing or inserting the Power Filter Unit.
DANGER:
HOT SURFACE
After removing the Power Filter Unit the attached heatsink on the bottom of the printed circuit board can be very hot. It can cause burns to
the hands.
Ensure that the heatsink is not hot before touching it.
4
Installation and Testing
There are no switches to set on this plug-in.
