Applied Research Project Information
The Applied Research Project is based on the increasing development of cancer problem in the
fire service industry. Read the following objective for the Firefighter Cancer Support Network.
“The objective of the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN) is to provide
timely assistance to all fire service members and their families in the event of
cancer diagnosis. We maintain and continuously update a roster of mentors who
have personal experience with many types of cancers who will personally guide
you through the process of dealing with your specific illness.”
Applied Research Project Writing Instructions
Read Taking Action Against Cancer in the Fire Service, located in this module’s learning
resources. Once you have read this document, provide the following information in your
Applied Research Project:
1. A brief summary of the document.
2. Using two additional resources other than this document, describe the “Scope” of the
Cancer Problem.
3. List at least three (3) major contributors to cancer in the fire service.
4. Describe how your organization collects, documents, and stores Exposure Records.
5. Provide at least two (2) ways your organization could improve on Exposure Record
collection, documentation, and storage.
6. Provide at least five (5) examples on how your organization could improve cancer
prevention practices/methods.
7. Describe how you can contribute to each of your five (5) examples.
Applied Research Project Submission
Your research project must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document, written in APA
format, 12pt. Times New Roman Font, Double Spaced. Your paper must be a minimum of 5
pages, but no more than 8 pages, not including the Title page, Table of Contents, or References
page(s). Use the list of instructions above to format your research paper. An APA formatted
paper is located in your Final Project Learning Resources folder. All sources used to create
your paper must be properly cited. At a minimum, use three (3) sources outside of your course
textbook. When you complete this assignment, please save your and submit your assignment
