It's A Bad News Bug
A Science 8 Resource-based Project
Purpose: To study the characteristics of an infectious diseases, to
practice gathering and correctly citing information and to present this information to your peers.
Proposed Task:
Step 1. Gather information from at least three different sources (need print and internet
sources) on a selected disease (see list below)
Look for information such as:
1.the bacterium/virus that causes the condition
2.the symptoms and dangers of the disease
3.how it spreads, where it is commonly found, who is most vulnerable
4.treatment
5.discoverers of the disease and/or scientists who discovered the cure or treatments
6.any other interesting information
Step 2. From your information, design a pamphlet that would be available for distribuation at
public heatlh centers (see rubric on other side)
Step 3. Create a Works Cited list of the resources you used. Use correct bibliography format minimum three sources

Project Assessment
1. Research Notes – towards the end of each block in the library, teacher will check in on
progress made during the class. You will put your notes directly onto the rough copy
pamphlets given by teacher. /10
2. Works Cited – how to create a Works Cited list (list of resources) will be taught in the
library and your “Works Cited” page will be handed in on project due date. /10
3. Presentation – you will be presenting your pamphlet to a small group of students and will
be given a peer assessment for your presentation. /10
