Position Description – Director of Member Marketing
Description
This high-level position is responsible for establishing goals, strategies, and plans for
membership recruitment and marketing activities and executing those plans and strategies. The
position will be responsible for increasing membership growth and for developing and
implementing comprehensive marketing plans for IAA events, programs, and other initiatives.
S/he will act as a liaison to the IAA Membership Committee, as well as to senior executives of
prospective member firms and a primary point of contact for prospective member firm
representatives. The position reports to the Vice President of Communications & Marketing.
Key Responsibilities














Develop and implement membership recruitment strategies, policies and processes.
Establish short- and long-term goals to achieve the organization’s member recruitment
and marketing objectives pursuant to the Association’s strategic plan.
Develop and implement strategic marketing plans to convey strong value proposition for
members and realize the Association’s goals.
Develop e-marketing, direct mail, and other member recruitment and event-related
campaigns and activities.
Analyze the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, develop related reports and
recommend adjustments to strategies and tactics.
Conduct targeted market research to ascertain prospect and member perception of
benefits and programs.
Work with VP of Communications and Marketing to ensure consistent branding
throughout the organization and all communications, including traditional and electronic
media.
Communicate effectively with senior executives within the investment advisory
community and the IAA Board.
Conduct effective in-person and phone outreach to prospective members and associate
members.
Create marketing materials and detailed marketing schedules for all IAA events–
including email campaigns, social media postings and hard copy brochure distribution.
Create and update member recruitment materials, including pursuant to the IAA’s
strategic plan.
Provide member recruitment and marketing data and analysis to staff, committees, and
Board members.
Serve as primary liaison to IAA Membership Committee and work with Committee Chair
and Vice Chair on all aspects of the Committee’s objectives and meetings.
Collaborate with IAA staff on cross-departmental initiatives and operations.

Experience and Qualifications








Significant experience in marketing and membership recruiting services, preferably in
association management and/or financial services industry.
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Marketing, Communications or related fields.
Demonstrated ability to plan, create and grow new initiatives based on strategic
assessment.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cross-departmentally on projects.
Ability and willingness to contribute at both strategic and tactical levels.
Supervisory/management experience preferred.
Experience working with AMS and CRM systems and databases as well as with strong
proficiency in Excel, other standard Microsoft Office software, and graphic design
software. Facility with Meridian, MagnetMail, Discovery Data, and other
software/databases used for recruiting and marketing preferred.
Demonstrated commitment to fiscal responsibility and ability to leverage limited
resources efficiently and effectively.










Ability to relate well with a wide range of constituencies, including senior personnel at
investment advisers and other financial services firms.
Strong verbal and written communications skills (including proofing).
Possesses highest integrity, ethics, and good judgment.

Possesses a positive “can do” attitude.
Collaborative team player.
Maintains professional rapport with all members of the IAA staff and external contacts.
