Atoms, Elements, Molecules, and Compounds You are going to create a layered book about atoms, elements, molecules, and compounds. Follow the directions your teacher gives about folding the layered book. (See below.) The resources available are your Science Journal and the Introduction to Matter textbook, pgs.56-63, pgs.82-94, and pgs.106-113. This project may be done alone, or with one other person. MATERIALS: Printer Paper – supplied in class Colored Pencils Scissors Your creativeness Textbook Use three sheets of paper. Label the flaps as follows: The bold writing is the title and the information in parenthesis is the requirements for that section. ELEMENTS (What are they? What makes each unique?) ATOMS (What is the relationship between atoms and elements?) MOLECULES that aren’t COMPOUNDS and MOLECULES that are COMPOUNDS (One drawing of an example of each.) (A written explanation of the difference between them.) CHEMICAL REACTIONS (Describe the evidence that a chemical reaction has happened, or is happening). (Provide a previously unmentioned example of a chemical reaction, as a labeled reaction equation, and written explanation.) (Explain the Law of Conservation of Mass as it applies to chemical reactions.) DEVELOPMENT OF ATOMIC THEORY (Who developed the Atomic Theory?) (How did these people develop the Atomic Theory?). (Draw the models that show the progression of the development of the Atomic Theory.) ATOMIC STRUCTURE (Draw a labeled, 3-d diagram of the parts of an atom, and include the charge of each part.) Be artistic and creative! Use illustrations and text to represent the required information.
