WU WEI SCHOOL OF REIKI REIKI 2 HANDBOOK Tip of the middle finger Pericardium 9 and it’s implications The tip of the middle finger, Pericardium 9, is used in Reiki to focus the energy during the gassho meditation as well when drawing the symbols. The pericardium is a fire channel in 5 element theory. Fire creates swift and irreversible change as it destroys one form in order to create another. It is a symbol of transformation and rebirth as well as the divine spark of light within each of us. The pericardium is primarily a function rather than an organ so there are not directly disease associated with the organ itself. The pericardium protects the heart from trauma and in the context of Reiki from taking other people’s dis-eases. The pericardium channel is also responsible for spreading shen influence throughout the body-mind. If it cannot do this a “great impatience without any ability to act” emerges as the pericardium cannot distribute the energy of the heart. It is important during a Reiki session that the energy of the heart is present when channeling healing. Imbalances in the channel can also manifest as: • focusing so much on work or school so that our personal issues are given less priority. • aggressive behavior so that heart’s vulnerability is camouflaged. • Fogging emotional reactions with vagueness (absent mindedness). • Palpitations, mental agitation, incessant talking, mania, and insomnia. In a Self protective posture the channel physically embodies the lining of a self protective capsule. The SJ covers the outside surface, and the PC the inner surface. (SJ 5 protection) With hugging we use the PC meridian to encircle the other and draw them towards our heart. So it is with Reiki sessions. 3 branches of the pericardium meridian 1. across the diaphragm, an inner boundary 2. to throat, our self expression 3. out to our arms, our action of expression and the pathway to channel the energy.
