Electrical Energy in Circuits and Conductive material BY: DEJAH T., MELANY P., HAYLEY B. Electrical Energy Energy made available by the flow of electric charge through a conductor. Current The rate at which charge flows through a circuit is known as the current. I total = I1 + I2 + I3 + ... Parallel Circuits more than one path. Rules: -Two or more paths for current flow -Voltage is the same across each component -Sum of currents through each path = total current from source -TOTAL RESISTANCE = 1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 + ... -If one path broken, current flows through others Series Circuit ONE path for current to flow Rules: -Same current flows through each part -Total resistance = sum of individual resistances. -Voltage applied = sum of individual voltage drops. -Voltage drop across a resistor is directly proportional to the size of the resistor. -Circuit is broken = no current will flow. Conductors materials that permit electrons to flow freely from particle to particle.
