MACA
1. Introduction
MACA(Latin name:Lepidium meyenii Walp )is indigenous of Peru, which
belongs to Brassicaceae as same as Broccoli and Radish, is cultivating or
growing at the BonBon land which is high altitude (about 3000-4000m) of
Andes region of Bolivia-Chile in South America.
It is said that the cultivation of MACA was started by the Inca’s native 2000
years ago. The raw or dried hypocotyls of MACA are used for food by
Peruvian people for the purpose of nutrition. There is the record of colony of
200 years ago that MACA was used for the purpose of increasing breeding
capability of livestock.
It is around 1994 that MACA was first introduced to USA market, it is using
for the purpose of maintaining and increasing physical strength. In 1998,
Peruvian President FUJIMORI has introduced MACA as souvenir of Peru to
Japan.
Although MACA was focused at the usage as tonic, but now, it is focusing
again since MACA has various effects (ex: improvement menopausal disorders
etc.) from the latest research.

3. The pharmacology effect of MACA

Mouse that intakes MACA extract significantly prolonged swimming time than control. This
