Optimin organic trace minerals
Protect the value of your minerals
®
The nutritional success of any organic trace mineral depends on the ability of the
organic escort to hold onto and protect the metal from undesirable reactions. Optimin’s
superior chelation stability maintains the integrity and keeps the organic mineral
in its original form during digestion. Optimins are soluble and ready for absorption,
especially when they are needed most – under stress or during difficult dietary
digestive conditions.

Optimal chelation stability
Optimin organic trace minerals are unique in that they are bonded by multiple points
of attachment to multiple amino acids and oligo-peptides. Optimins are the strongest
chelated minerals on the market, with a bond strength significantly greater than
any other product. However, the bond strength is significantly lower than that of
the binding agents in the animal’s own metabolism (e.g. metal transport proteins).
The superior bond strength of the Optimin chelated mineral enhances the integrity
and stability of the chelate structure when subjected to dilution and varying pH
levels. Simple complexes and weaker chelates can be more easily hydrolyzed and
decomposed during gastric passage and therefore lose some of their nutritional
value.

Greater mineral bioavailability
• Essential trace minerals are not inert but are chemically active. Also, many inorganic minerals dissociate easily during the
digestion process. These free minerals (charged ionic forms) can easily be tied up by countless dietary antagonists (phytates,
tannins, phosphates, molybdenum, sulfur, iron, etc.) that can render the minerals insoluble and therefore effectively depress
their potential to be absorbed.
• Trace mineral absorption and metabolism are interrelated. A dietary excess of one mineral can easily cause a metabolic deficiency
of another. The effect of this common problem can be reduced by the use of organic minerals in the diet.
• The effect of these common problems (antagonists & interactions) may be reduced by the use of organic minerals in the diet.
Research-proven benefits
• Optimin® chelated minerals protect the value of your trace minerals
• Optimin chelated minerals enhance an animal’s ability to overcome numerous stressful nutritional and physiological conditions
including infections, immune suppression, climatic stress, difficult digestive conditions and many more.
• Optimin chelated minerals enhance the immune response to vaccinations
• Optimin chelated minerals enhance reproductive performance
• Optimin chelated minerals can be used for partial or total replacement of inorganic minerals and other organic minerals to
improve availability and utilization of minerals while reducing total trace mineral levels excreted into the environment.
• Optimin chelates are the only full range
organic trace minerals product line developed
and marketed by animal nutritionists.
• Optimin chelates are produced entirely by
a natural process and using natural
ingredients in a dedicated facility with
food-grade standards.
• FAMI-QS, GMP & Safe Food Safe Feed certified quality controls run on every
batch ensure quality, safety, performance
and traceability to the Optimin users
worldwide.
Optimin® Chelated Minerals Deliver!
Optimins are metal proteinates which are products resulting from the chelation (i.e. binding) of a soluble trace mineral source
such as zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, etc., with amino acids and partially hydrolyzed (broken down) protein. The resulting chelate
is a trace metal bound by multiple attachment points to the organic molecule (ligand, escort) (Figure A). This is different from
most other organic products on the market. Many of the other organic mineral products on the market are merely simple
complexes. Simple complexes have only one attachment point between the metal and the organic escort (Figure B).

The multiple binding points of a true chelate provide a greater likelihood of increased stability. A way to understand this concept
is to imagine holding a basketball with one hand. With this type of grip the ball is easily knocked loose. Now imagine holding
the same ball but in both hands, with each hand holding an opposite side of the ball. In this grip, it is much more difficult for
the ball to be knocked free. The simple complex is similar to holding the ball in one hand (shown in Figure C) while the Optimin
chelated molecule (shown in Figure D) is similar to holding the ball in both hands.

Optimin Organic Minerals take advantage of this molecular structure and show increased stability as compared to other organic
trace minerals. Optimins can deliver the mineral to the lower gut with greater effectiveness and, therefore, improve the trace
mineral status in the animal. This, of course, is the ultimate goal.
How can you get Optimin chelated minerals?
Optimin Organic Minerals can be an effective part of your total mineral program. Optimins are available in a wide variety of
straight minerals as well as combinations. Ask your mineral supplier to include Optimins in your mineral supplement to improve
the trace mineral status of your animals. You can also talk to your Trouw Nutrition USA Sales Representative or call 800-328-8942
