Our commitment to continually invest in new
equipment and training helps our patients
have access to imaging advancements,
such as improved clarity and reduced
radiation exposure. Patient safety is our top
priority, and we pride ourselves on providing
quality images with the lowest dose of
radiation possible.
An on-site, board-certified radiologist provides a
prompt, professional viewing and interpretation
of images during regular business hours.
After-hours interpretation is handled via an
experienced teleradiology group with followup by the staff radiologist. Additionally, a
significant investment has been made in a
secure digital imaging system known as PACS
(Picture-Archiving and Communications System),
which allows images to be stored electronically
and conveniently viewed by your doctor in his/
her office.

Our Imaging Services
Mammography
The following imaging services are available at
Lake Area Medical Center.
A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast that is
used to screen for breast cancer. Mammograms
can find tumors that are too small for you or
your doctor to feel. Mammography uses special
X-ray images to detect abnormal growths or
changes in the breast tissue. Using a machine
made especially for breast tissue, a technician
compresses the breast and takes pictures from
at least two different angels, creating a set of
images for each breast called a mammogram.
In a screening mammogram, the breast is
X-rayed from top to bottom and from side to
side. A diagnostic mammogram focuses in on a
particular lump or area of abnormal tissue.
Computed Tomography, “CAT” Scan (CT)
This exam captures multiple images of a body
part or area within seconds. Our advanced
CT scanner uses low-dose technology to limit
radiation exposure to your body.
Cardiac CT Angiography testing is also performed
at LAMC.
DEXA Scan
The DEXA Scan measures bone mineral density
to detect Osteoporosis, a disease which increases
the risk of bone fractures and breaks.
Imaging Specialists
The radiologists have the experience and
credentials necessary to be actively involved
with your doctor, providing insight to help make
accurate diagnoses and treatment decisions.
Timely Appointments
Your time is valuable. We pride ourselves on our
short wait times. You can make an appointment
by calling 337-475-4110. Please have your
referral form, physician order and insurance
information available.
Fluroscopy
Nuclear Medicine
This imaging technique takes a “movie” of the
body. Whether in our main department or during
a surgery, fluoroscopy can allow a physician to
see “real time” what’s going on inside your body.
This specialty diagnostic imaging uses drugs
designed to determine the presence of disease
by looking at how the body functions versus
studies that examine anatomy.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Ultrasound/Vascular Ultrasound
MRI uses a magnet to produce images versus
radiation. Our high-field technology quickly
produces images with a superb level of detail and
clarity compared to “open” MRI technologies. Our
MRI has a wide opening, which can help patients
feel more at ease and less claustrophobic.
Ultrasound testing involves the use of highfrequency sound waves rather than radiation
to produce images, such as a baby in its mother’s
womb or the structure and function of the
heart. For gynecologic and urologic studies, our
sophisticated equipment produces 3-D images.
MRI-guided biopsies and breast scans are two
additional capabilities.
An echocardiogram is a test in which the
ultrasound is used to get a good look at
the structure and function of the heart,
including the chambers, valves and the major
blood vessels that exit from the left and
right ventricles.
MRI testing is performed in the MRI & Wound Care
Center located at 4150 Nelson Rd., Bldg. I, located
on the west side of LAMC.
