Classical Composer Report
Objective: The objective of this assignment is for the student to gain a greater understanding,
knowledge, and appreciation of classical music and the composers of that era.
Directions:
You will be assigned a composer and are expected to research him/her, his/her music, and the time
period, so that you can present a 5 minute oral report to the class and a short paper.
Paper:
Items to include in your report should include, but is not limited to the following:
- Composer’s Name and Birthdates
- Brief history of composers life
- Any major accomplishments by the composer
- Any major historical events during the life of the composer
- Major Works by the composer
- Instruments that the composer wrote a lot for
- Interesting facts about the composer
- After studying the composer…Do you appreciate any of his/her work and why?
Oral Report:
Items to be included in your oral report:
 Composers Name and Birthdates
 BRIEF history of composer (3-4 sentences that best sum up the life of your composer)
 Name a few major works
 Play one major work for class (please be prepared to play a sound recording of one major work
of your choice from your composer…CD and iPod will work)
 1-2 interesting facts
DO NOT READ YOUR PAPER FOR THE ORAL REPORT! SHOULD BE A CONDENSED VERSION!

Need at least 2 sources (any kind…internet, books, etc.)
