BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
My client is a leading international supplier of value-added flavors and ingredients to the global food
and beverage industry. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Business Development
Manager for one of their key locations.
The Business Development Manager provides leadership in the development of business plans
and new product development plans in support of the strategic plan for the company. The position
manages the Beverage product portfolio, identifying customer and market needs and translating
those needs to product and technology needs.
RESPONSBILITIES










Lead the development of business plans for the Beverage business.
Oversee and influence development associated with the product lines: cost/margins, forecasts,
pricing, research & development, marketing, etc.
Responsible for identifying market segments, understanding the market landscape for company
products; identifying growth opportunities and product gaps, evaluating the competitive offerings in
these segments, and communicating the requirements of these market segments to Research &
Development and senior leadership.
Determine current and future needs by researching customer needs/wants and industry trends.
Manage the project pipeline for Beverages. Prioritize projects with input from VP Sales &
Technical Director.
Work with Account Managers and VP Sales to develop and execute strategies at target accounts
Develop and recommend product positioning and pricing strategy to produce the highest possible
long-term market share, sales volume, and profitability.
Responsible for providing the sales team with the necessary technical expertise to enable them to
sell the product. This involves printed and electronic promotional material, product training, etc.
Assist with the development of the annual marketing plan and for advertising, promotion and sales
aids in accordance with the annual marketing plan.
Represent the company and the product lines at industry trade shows and conferences, as well as
at customer presentations.
REQUIREMENTS










Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Chemistry or Marketing (with strong technical
acumen)
Master’s Degree a bonus
Must have experience in marketing ingredients to beverage companies
Must have 5+ years job related experience in product management, marketing, and/or sales in the
food ingredients and/or flavor industry.
Must have in-depth expertise in new product development from conception to market launch.
Management experience directing cross-functional teams to oversee profitability of products
(existing and newly developed products).
Budgeting experience – expenses and capital requirements for product projects.
Strong product development, strategic planning, marketing, and project management skills.
Proven leadership abilities and strong presence. Above-average presentation skills are required,
as are excellent verbal and written communication skills. Outstanding interpersonal skills with
ability to influence cross-functional team members, as well as senior management.
In-depth knowledge of the flavor and food ingredient global marketplace as it relates to beverages.


Excellent customer focus, cross-cultural communication, organizational, analytical, and problem
solving skills.
Must be willing to travel (30%)
