Welcome to the Summer Edition 2017
“Northwick Surgery exists to provide care for patients who are ill or believe
themselves to be ill”
Retirement of our senior partner Dr Fergus McCloghry
We regret to inform you that Dr Fergus McCloghry is retiring at the end of this month, after 33
years of his dedicated services to the community and the Practice. He will be a great loss to the
Practice and his patients. He is well respected and loved by the Practice as well as by his patients.
We will miss him greatly and wish him a happy and fulfilling retirement.
There is a message book at the reception for patients who would like to convey their wishes to
him.

on discharge
 Do prescribing audits for the practice as well as managed script switch

 Help develop electronic prescribing and repeat dispensing

Hay Fever:
Hey Fever symptoms vary in severity and may be worse some years, depending on the weather
conditions and pollen count. The time of year your symptoms start will depend on the types of
pollen you are allergic to. The symptoms of hay fever include:
 Frequent sneezing
 Runny or blocked nose
 Itchy, red or watery eyes (allergic conjunctivitis)
 An itchy throat, mouth, nose and ears
 cough caused by postnasal drip (mucus dripping down the throat from the back of the nose)
Less commonly, you may also experience:
 The loss of your sense of smell (anosmia)
 Facial pain (caused by blocked sinuses)
 headaches
 earache
Even though your hay fever symptoms may be mild, they can interfere with your sleep and your
daily activities at school or work. If you have asthma, your asthma symptoms may get worse when
you have fever. Sometimes, the symptoms of asthma only occur when you have fever. These
symptoms include:




When
Tight chest
shortness of breath
Coughing
Wheezing
to seek medical advice:
Most cases of hay fever can be treated using over – the – counter medication. Your local pharmacist
can advise you on treatments for you or your children. You usually only need to see your GP if:
You can’t control your symptoms with over- the -counter medications, or you have
troublesome side effects caused by the medication
 You’re experiencing persistent complications of hay fever, such as worsening of asthma or
repeated episodes of sinusitis
 The pattern of your symptoms is unusual, such as occurring during the winter or only at your
workplace (it’s likely that another substance other than pollen is responsible, and further
testing will be needed to confirm this)

How sharing your information benefits to improve care
North West London health and care professionals are working together to provide your care.
Those involved can see relevant information about you, so you can receive joint care. This ensures
that when you visit your GP practice, the hospital or get support in your community or at home,
your care professional such as your GP, hospital doctor, district nurse or social worker has the
right information about you at all right time.
The Benefits: You can talk to your health and care professional about sharing your information
but here are some of the benefits:
 You only need to tell your history once
 You avoid unnecessary appointments and tests
 You can be more involved in decisions about your care
Patient’s right to share:
If you do not wish for your information to be shared via the Whole Systems Integrated Care
tools, you can complete the below form and return it to your GP.
